Fury AgroFollow

#1 Dec 28 2004 at 2:14 PM Rating: Decent
My character is an Assassin but wanted to ask the priests about agro control. Usually hunt with guildmates, Main Tank is a 25 SK and the healer a 24 Fury. somehow and seems more recently the SK can not steal agro from our priest. He can throw all his taunts at the mob and cant pull them off and the priest dies continualy.
Any advice? Seems more likely the Fury is doing something wrong. Maybe casting debuffs too early?
Would appreciate any feedback

thanks

First, just to get that out of the way, are the SK's abilities upgraded to app3+?

Is the fury casting bristlebelt/nettleshield on the tank after the mob is pulled or before? The damageshield and buffs should always be cast before the pull or later in the fight, never at the beginning of fight.

If the fury is casting regrowth on the tank before the pull, tell him to wait for tank to come back before casting regrowth.

Is the fury using effloresce, bloom, sylvan touch, winds of renewal, sylvan wind regularly during fights? If so, something is wrong. Most of the time, regrowth is sufficient and generates much less hate since it heals over time.

Is the tank taking too much damage? Does he have up to date gear?

Make sure the fury always has willowskin and wild spirit up to buff up the group's defense. Those spells need to be upgraded and also recasting them after each ding/miniding helps(can gain a few points in stats after a miniding) even if they last for a few hours.

The fury should always be in lion form. The benefits are too good to pass up and it boosts the defense, which is good when healer takes aggro.

Here's a typical fight:
Buff the group before fight(group buffs, individual buffs, damage shield)
Tank goes to pull and comes back with mob.
Fury casts regrowth on tank if he has lost health.
Fury casts feral intimidation/weakness on mob.
Fury casts DoTs on mob.
Fury melees and keep eye on tank's health.
When regrowth wears off, recast regrowth.
If tank health's get to half or below, cast bloom.
When DoT's and/or debuffs fade, recast.

If tank has decent equipment, abilities and knows his job, I would not get hit.

If you're hunting mobs that are much higher than your group and your tank just gets hit too hard, even with good armor, add another healer to your group. A healer duo works VERY well(preferably different classes). I've grouped with templars and mystics before and the groups were awesome.

Around your level would be a good time to consider having 2 healers in your guild groups at all time. Have a cleric as main healer and the fury just takes care of all buffs/debuffs/DoTs and cast regrowth on main tank to help the cleric. That way, the healers won't take aggro and they will also have enough power after each fight to chain kill mobs.

The above poster did a great job spelling out an answer for you. Like they said, for some reason buffing right as the fight starts creates *insane* agro for the Fury (or anyone else doing that). You want to buff at least 10 seconds or so before the tank starts the next fight to be free of this effect. I often refresh the damage shield after a fight ends, just to be safe. This may be the problem - but if not, is certainly something to be aware of.

A priest-type should never mix nukes with heals. Could that be it? I don't even turn on auto-attack.

I love it when the tank is a Paladin. He can ward himself as he starts a fight and build up hate/agro a bit more before I have to start healing. I start w/ Regro and see how that goes. If we're on a wicked ^^ mob it often isn't enough, and I have to do Bloom (I have an Adept on that) or another direct heal. Usually the tank keeps agro even when I'm chain healing w/ Regrows and Blooms. So, I dunno what the problem is - good luck with it though.

Of course, the fastest way for a Fury to lose aggro is to cast subterfuge (level 19) or confounding brambles (27, when he reaches it). I've found those spells instantly turn the mobs away from me no matter what kind of over healing, buffing, or nuking I've been doing that I shouldn't be doing.

The guide above is nicely started and should keep agro on the tank, however i noticed a couple of things that in my exp have really locked agro on the tank. Do everything the guy told you in the above post, but the tank must do TWO things. after you've buffed the tank and slapped a HoT (or in a cleric's case RH, or shammy's ward) on him/her, they run out and get some beasties. This is the important part: Before you do anything like heal or debuff or whatever, the tank must AE taunt and immediately AE damage the mobs. This locks the mobs in on him... good luck on stealing agro now, you can't unless you blow your entire power bar chain casting everything you've got... and i still don't think that would work. oh ya, if you assassin or whatever isn't assisting he might be able to drag agro of the tank in this case, but even that is unlikely.

I have recently started using Ram's growth and even *gasp* Sylvan Wind for group heals INSTEAD of primarily using single target HoTs when I'm in a group as primary healer, and ya know? I don't have trouble with aggro as a rule. So why is this such a 'no no'? I only use bloom/effloresce as needed to spot heal a target in group.. and I routinely use Weakness and feral intimidation to debuff mobs.

I find that in my own experience, the group heals over time are way more effective overall and in fact draw LESS aggro for me than single target heals or heals over time. (the ppl in my 'regular' group have high dps and generally consist of at least 3 or more tank class ppl) Plus, I also throw in the occasional nuke to finish off a mob, complete an HO, or melee to throw in free damage to keep up my slash/crush skill, at the same time functioning as primary healer for the group.

As long as I'm not causing problems w/ stealing aggro, I don't understand the problem? So many ppl seem to be averse to the Fury doing certain things in group bc they anticipate problems...I won't say I NEVER pull aggro, but when I do it's rare and generally resolved in a short period of time.

What gives? Is it a timing issue that people are having problems with on this or am I just with ppl who are experts at holding aggro?

I have a lvl 27 fury, I don't get much agro from regrowth..of course i now have a high level HoT (heal over time) the best way not to get agro for me is to kinda stand behind or outside of combat, but I do fight when I can with the tank...I'm a fury I'm suppose to like to do that.... But its only when I do heals, dots and HO's with my big blast can I really pull the agro from the tank, this I don't do on purpose, but as long as your brambles stuff is done before the battle, Heals will pull agro from mobs the tank hasn't taunted or hurt. I also know that if in a battle you decide to do one or the other, you seldom run into problems. But remember a fury can deal more damage than they can heal. Yes, its a good thing to stay in lion form, though I had someone tell me it adds agro, i've not been able to confirm that.
