How important is race?Follow

In EQ2, I chose a high elf fighter and am pursuing the Paladin branch. I know that high elves lack in strength and stamina, and have wonderful wisdom, but I was just curious how much it is going to hurt me that I lack in these fields?

When you level in your class does race determine how fast you grow in strength and stamina, and do your attributes grow depending on your profession? In the long run I am just worried my high elf will not hold out to his physically superior counterparts.

Thanks :)

IKSAR
IKSAR IKSAR IKSAR
IKSAR!!!!!

Ok, now that you know what race I prefer... seriously...race is not a big issue in this game as one might find in some other MMORPGs. Actually, after the first 10 or 12 levels... it doesn't make much difference at all, as long as you keep your gear up to date. I've grouped with just about everything you can think of, gnome and wood elf crusaders, Troll mages, Ogre scouts.... they all seemed to do fine and I noticed little difference.

This is both a good and bad thing.

But still, if you want to play a Troll scout, go for it. Nothing will stop you.

(you should really play Iksar though :D :D :D :D ok I'll shut up.)

I am a Koada'Dal Monk. Often referred to as a High Elf. My foes tremble before me as if the Trolls and Ogres of Freeport were bearing down on them with brandished axe and shining plate mail.

Out of Character: The great thing about EQ2 is you can play what you like and stats and playability even out.

So is race really not that important? I am level 13 and a level 14 kerran monk had more hp than me... also the level 16 druid had more exp than me also... so do they basically even out in the long run?

The races are not going to be EXACTLY the same in hp or power or stats... BUT.... they can still swing it and be just fine. Especially if you don't get too lax on your gear. While yes, an ogre will have a bit easier time as a tank type than a ratonga, it doesn't at all mean you can't be a ratonga (or in your case, High Elf) tank and still hold your own perfectly well.

-- I know I'm not supposed to bring up the "other" game *blush* but did you by chance come from FFXI like I did? I remember I spent hours trying to decide the most "effecient" race/job combo so I wouldn't get mocked in game. Don't worry about that here. Play whatever job fits your style... no one's going to say "hey you can't be a Troll scout!" and that is ...imho...one of the BEST things about this game.

I want to also say, AC matters more than uber HP. My 19 Iksar brawler with buffs on from my static Shammy and Crusader has about 850 HP. His AC is 530 or so, his attack is 313, his LOWEST resistance is Magic, and that's at 144, his higest is 245, and that's to poison. Even with all this - and I do have higher HP than our Crusader.... she still tanks better than me because her AC is around 680 or so atm. So HP - while nice... isn't going to make or break a tank.
