Opening chestsFollow

#1 Dec 26 2004 at 12:13 AM Rating: Decent
This is probably a dumb question, but I thought I'd read that scouts were able to open chests safely. I've been looking at scout abilities online, and I don't see anything about opening chests. Do they have that ability? And if so, what's it called/when do they get it? Thanks in advance!

Right Click the Chest, Select Diarm.

Note:

Expect the chest to explode anyways. Currently your level will go up much much faster then your skill. By the time your in your 15-20's you will have very little chance of opening the chest because your skill will be way behind your level.

This used to e the case with me. But things got better a while back.

I have a level 28 Assassin and my disarm skill is 143/143. I rarely ever actually trip a trap anymore.

i started off could disarm all traps, got to about 15 ( when i grouped in BB sorta time) and traps were impossible my skill is crap and the ammount of disarming you have to do to skill up means alot of chests blowing up in your face lol. although i seen a bard with max disarm (same lvl as me same cap i think) and they blew up in his face too!

I had a chest blow up and kill me in the crow fields. Full health to dead on disarm. :( I was a little upset since it was my first death.
#6 Dec 26 2004 at 2:51 PM Rating: Decent
Yep, that's how I died the first time too; stupid chest exploded and hit me for 91 points of damage. Thanks for your responses; I'll have to work on my disarm skill now.

While I'm at it...do we have to work on weapon skills in EQ2 as in EQ1? Should I switch to my club every so often to practice 1H blunt? (My best weapon right now is a slashing one.)

MOst combat skill will go up when you lvl up, I am a lvl 23 Brigand, only use slash & dagger but my blunt skill also max when I lvl up.

I haven't played a scout class yet so I don't know much about trap skills, so pardon the misloaction of this response, but I do know about weapond skills being a fresly lvl 20 Berserker. There are weapon skill such as dagger and sword that will always be maxed. At lvl 20 mine are 100/100 for both. These represent your ability to hold that certain type of weapon. Your combat skills on the other hand, such as crushing, slashing, and piercing will be powered up based on use. I realised this at level 14 so I have, for example, 100/100 slashing (my main weapons for many levels) 82/100 crushing (once i realised i had to crush things to get skill in it), and 40/100 piercing (i have yet to use a weapon that pierces). Hope this clears things up.
Remember-
WEAPON skills will always be max and represent the ability to HOLD weapons
COMBAT skills will need to be trained and represent your ability to deal death with those weapons

Just out of curiosity, did you get it up purely from disarming chests that drop from the mobs or is there some other way to work on the skill now? I find it nearly impossible to raise myself with the low amount of chests I see dropping, not to mention the impatient people that just try to open it before the scout gets a chance to disarm, or the cases in which you have more than one scout in the group and they are just a tad bit quicker :)

From the EQ2 Station Stats the NPC with the Most Kills WorldWide list.

2. a treasure chest with 12,942 kills

I rest to full health before going near a chest drop when playing solo. Alot of times when in a group and a chest drops someone immediately tries to disarm it blowing the entire pt to hell... ugh.

Your skill will keep going up as long as you try and disarm every chest you get, I got my skill up to max finally in Thundering Steppes, killing Giants. Up until that point I blew almost everyone up.

Just keep going and you'll get it eventually.

Two nights ago, I opened a chest in Thundering Steppes....well...I tried to disarm it and it opened up a "chest of Whup-**** on me. "You have been hit by 689 damage".

So is it an actual skill like slash and blunt that increases as you use it more often? I have siarmed already about 10 chests with no notable skill increase.

The more you disarm the better your skill will get. Just like magic skills and weapons skills you have to work on them. Get lazy with it and you will pay for it.

Also, regarding weapons training, you might want to start shooting arrows as well. At level 15, if you're going assasin, you get a very powerful ranged shot.

Someone showed me this. Head out to the commonlands, find a mob and launch arrows at it while running backwards. You'll find your arrow skill move up pretty quick. Then by the time you hit level 15 you'll be hitting everything.

I've been killed by chests hitting for 892 before now. Disarm is a joke and the only way to skill is to keep disarming. It is nice to see people post that it does get better.

Unfortunately it is at present self-defeating. If the group are going to get nuked, puked or stunned anyway then why wait for the disarm? This makes people jump the gun and loses you the chance of a skill raise.

It is definitely a good idea to not only wait for everyone to get back to health but also make sure the healer has power for a cure disease/poison since some of the DoTs are pretty viscious. We had one doing 91 damage a tick in Stormhold.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who actually took the time to get the title on Isle of Refuge.

look disarm is a specal ability for scouts to perform a disarm so you are the only group member(if disarm lvl is high enough) to take damage or die. Smiley: sly bad for us

At level 36 my disarm is maxed. I haven't set off a trap in ages. :)

If there is another scout in your group and your disarm is not maxed, it's good to make sure you both get equal chances to disarm traps.

While I have only played the "Trial of the Isle" (did in fact delete it all from my OS because I recieved notification my DVD is coming soon, I know it's late)....where was I...oh yeah, on the Isle I never had a chest explode on me when I was able to disarm. The only times a chest did explode was when some doofus got loot happy and opened the chest before anyone had a chance to breathe. Of course I would also run up to other peoples chests and click disarm, karma ya know, and they never exploded either.

I've often found that higher-level encounters that I defeat yield the chests that explode in my face more often than not, but I'm usually able to disarm the chests from same- or lower-level encounters.

I've gotten in the habit of having the healer in the group toss an HoT on me just as I attempt to disarm each chest. This tends to mitigate any damage sustained from a triggered trap.
