Is there a way to search which players have what for sale without having to go to a broker or go into each and every house?

As Kensi said, you can buy a market board, and then double click on it from your inn room once you have it placed, then select to "Browse the market". You will then be able to check up on what is for sale. Then, you can go to the seller's room and buy directly from them.
