Greetings

I have spent a good deal of time today browsing forums for advice on whether or not I should become a carpenter. So far, I haven't gotten a lot of response or found enough information to go one way or the other.

The problem is, I have been planning to go carpenter for weeks, and at level 17, my skills are posied for carpentry (sculpting, flething, gathering, mining, and forresting all in the 85-105 range). However, now I'm wondering if this is the way to go. There doesn't appear to be a whole lot out there for carpenters and they are highly dependent on other classes for everything (if I am correct in my research).

I think being a provisioner would be much more fun, but, I don't have the skills (fishing, trapping, and cullinary skills).

Any carpenters out there with words of wisdom or provisioners wh could add something? Thanks!

Well...provisioning is a tad broken right now. Artistry skill increases are few and far between. Hopefully this will be fixed in January.

Apparently, from what I have read, as the Atrisans level increases, thier dependency for at least some critical component parts. Whatever SOE's reasons, and I have read some, what seems to be happening is everyone makes weps or armor. After all, with no market (and so many seemingly poor folks) who is going to take a chance on cooking?

Well, from what I have read, all the advanced Artisan classes are interdependant. I think a true niche can be found in a class that few others have. I know on my server, LDL, provisioners are a dime a dozen, so the market is very stagnant for their products. What I have found to be the case for me, is to go for the craft you want to do, not necessarily the one that will make you the most money, etc. If you want to be a carpenter, then I say be a carpenter.

I agree that you should be the crafting class that you want, regaurdless of item demand. I was in the same delima as you, wondering if I should be a "cook" as my roleplaying idea was leading me, or if I should go with a craft that is currently makeing money. I decided to stay with my plan and just enjoy it. I am sure demand for various items will continue to change as time goes on. Like food "stats" being added with the "big patch" this should make food and drink a viable comodaty on the open market, and furnature reducing the status point cost of bigger rooms will become more important as the game progresses and more people start getting the bigger rooms.

Merry Christmas =)
