You're already on the right track.

By all means, definitely take your crafting to level 9 on the IoR. Crafting will never be that easy again. Make anything- it doesn't matter. Harvest everything- try to max your skills for your level there. Again, it doesn't get any easier. Your only real expense will be the various Recipe Books 2 thru 9- buy 'em all because that's where your new recipes will come from.

Your first crafting destination in your home city will be a Wholesaler's Guild, where there are all the various crafting stations you need to make anything, a merchant that sells basic ingrediants and a broker that sells what other players have made/looted. ALWAYS get a Harvesting Task from the NPC you see when your first zone in (behind a desk). It's easy coin- I think 3sp for Tier 1 materials from the lowbie zones, 12sp for tier 2 materials from the teens zone and something like 42sp for tier 3 materials from the 20+ zones.

One final tip: try to make as many different items as you possibly can and always go for Pristine if possible. You get bonus crafting xp for successfully making an item you haven't made before and also get bonus xp for crafting Pristine examples of whatever you craft.

Best of luck to you.

You can harvest in any of the low level zones attached to the city. You may find them a little crowded but not nearly as bad as it used to be.

Once you get up a little ways you can go to the Commonlands/Anot and harvest T2 items.

You can also buy these on the broker if you have the funds. Prices very from dirt cheap, to several times their value. So take care. :)

A good way to get early funds, is to get a Wholesaler task, then buy the goods from the broker one at a time.

T1: Return Value 20c
T2: Return Value 80c
T3: Return Value 320c

So don't pay more then that if your turning them in for the quest.

Okay, this is probably the most ridiculous noob question asked around here, as it may become obvious once I actually hit level 10, but...
Where exactly is this "Wholesaler's Guild"? The closest thing to an artisan's haven I've found in Freeport is the Coalition of Tradesfolke, and they definitely aren't what I'm looking for. Will it become obvious where I should go once I hit level ten and become a craftsman? Do I have to choose a specific one, or are they simply divided by class and subclass for me?

Any help is welcome...

Hmmm.

You won't get to level 10 unless you can find one.

They tend to be holes in the ground with wooden covers. Each newbie area will have 1 Wholesaler and 3 Crafting Societies. There will be an NPC standing next to them that you need to ask about joining.

Before you make your choice at 10 you can only join the Wholesaler Society. Once you have dinged Artisan 10 you can join whichever one of the Crafting Societies corresponds to your choice. If you have wandered all over your newbie yard then they will all be on your map.
