My dad and I play this game (lol?) and I want to make the "perfect" duo that can group the most efficently. I want to be able to log on with my dad and take on tough mobs, and obviously 2 casters wouldn't be a good match. Anyone have any ideas on what you think the best* duo is? (I know there isn't a best but I am sure there are some that are distinguishably awesomerrr) :)

Thanks ^_^

Brawler (Monk/Bruiser) and Shaman (Mystic/Defiler). That's my vote for #1 duo. The brawler has the highest DPS of the tanking classes, but can still hold aggro. The Shaman has wards which, when combined with a brawler's evasion, makes for a strong combo.

But really, any combination of healer and some sort of DPS/tanking will work.

If you like casting, try two mages. Like a wizard and a pet summoner (necro if evil, summoner or ... conjurer? if good - sorry I'm blanking on the exact name of the good summoner).

I've yet to try it, but I wonder if two wizards can "ping pong"? Hey, that'd be an old eq tactic they managed not to squash, maybe. Ping-ponging = one wiz pulls w/ massive nuke. As critter runs at him, other wiz, who is the "right" distance away, zaps critter w/ his massive nuke. Critter is so mad that he runs after him. But he gets zapped by the first guy - and he ping pongs back and forth either never hitting either caster or only doing slight damage, til dead.

Two wizzes would = fast damage. Hmmm. You could also AE (area cast) on swarms of greens possibly.

The previous poster, howver, makes really good sense. Healer and tank/dps type makes a good, solid combo. A berserker or monk/brawler/bruiser might work best cuz they do more damage than guardians/pals/sks. And they have more HPs and capacity to take damage than a scout. They can taunt, too. But a guardian, sk or pal and a healer would work, too - the healer might need to nuke a tad more to kill faster - and wouldn't have to heal so much because the tank had more hps and ac, etc.

Note, use player made food and drink of your tier (lvl 10 to 19 is tier 2, so drink antonican coffee, whisky, etc - eat cichlid steaks, vulrich steaks, carrots, candied oranges, etc.) - u will have less downtime cuz this food = faster health regen and drink = faster power regen (faster than store bought or summoned food). I mention this because u want fast, efficient killing - less downtime is the key, too.

With this in mind, two scouts might possibly make an okay duo. As long as you kill stuff fast enough, you can use player made food to regen health between fights....

And a mage/tank combo is a possibility now, again, if you can kill stuff fast enough. Or a pal/mage...? That'd be weird - the pal can ward himself... I wonder...? But note, two scouts or mage/tank is very experimental - maybe join test server and try it out there? Heck, I might just do that.

Speaking of efficiency, I'm thinking of playing up a wiz and trying to form AoE groups. Six wizzes w/ area nukes ... or six wizzes on ^^ mobs w/ normal dd nukes... it might not work in all situations. But 5 wizzes and one healer might....

Berserker/Shaman might be your safest bet. Zerker is decent dps and some tanking ability. Shaman can heal, ward, slow the mob, nuke, DoT - and cure nasties - and SoW - and water breath. Overall for this game a well rounded combo. Any healer would work - they all heal well - and they all have nukes.

The mostly mage groups do work, against weaker mobs at least, might barely earn xp but can blow stuff away constantly, hence alot of bot groups 5 mages 1 priest.

I think beyond the standard tank/healer of some sort.

Any two mages with pet class's might do well, two necros, whatever.. one using a tank other using the skeleton or something like that.

If the pets could keep hate.. it might do okay.. I've yet be in party with pets.. can you heal them? If so a pet mage and a priest job do really well.

I had a conjuror in group the other day he seemed to be healing the pet by spending power, the pet getting with magic damamge or something weird like that

A good way to go could simply be with doing a defiler & necro combo. The defiler could tank mobs while healing himself while the necro could use some low hate DoTs and his pet to deal some decent damage. There is also the HO that could be fairly handy that you could then do by the necro starting a HO and have the defiler continue it for a two person HO that is fairly handy and will give you back a fair portion of power making for pretty non stop fighting.

As you can see from these posts, just about any combo can work. I recomend you both pick the class that you enjoy the most. If you enjoy what you are doing, you will level faster and play the game longer. Always remember, this is about having fun more then anything else.

Me and my wife play a Warden and Ranger duo and do very well with it, though there is a better match Im sure but we have a blast at it.

I play a Ranger. Here's my thoughts.

Only thing to think about with duoing with scouts, in particular Ranger/Assasins, is that we do alot of damage from behind/side or stealth and if partnered with a Priest or Mage type is that we would not be able to flank the enemy or go into stealth mode if we are tanking.

I duoed with a Paladin for a few levels. It was pretty efficient. We were only able to do at max Blue++ mobs but it was still fun and we were getting decent drops pretty regularly.

Just a thought.

Personally I prefer to solo, but when I have partnered (I am a summoner) it was with a cleric or a another summoner.

When it was with the cleric, I would pull with a group-wide DD (targetting any casters first when I could) and then immediately DoT the first mob, while cleric bounced a smite off me and onto my target. Casters go down fast to this since they always try to nuke back... which pisses off my tank pet :) By this point the group is on us (i.e. me because of the opening nuke) and cleric heals me as I spread DoTs to mobs least damaged. I tend to play as a battlemage, and that has been reflected in my skill growth... my parry and defense especially.

I guess ultimately it depends on your style though. IF you go with a healer as half the duo, the other should be someone who can pull all (or at least most) of the hate off the healer... after all, once the healer goes down, you may not be surviving them by long! <--{X_X}--<<

Race would also be an important consideration. A high agility would serve you well in keeping enemy blows from landing (assuming a duo... fuller groups won't matter as much), which means less power and time used healing, which in turn means mobs go down faster under 2 toons' blows, which also in turn means fewer blows thrown back atcha... I went with a gnome mage, so I had a high int to start and decent agi. Then when I got my first stat upgrade (not sure what exactly they call it) I chose more agi... my int was more than adequate for my style. It made an immediately noticeable difference too... I seriously doubt a barn wall like an ogre would be able to dodge them blows... true, stamina means they can take more hits... but why take them? :P

I'm biased to gnomes a bit to be sure, for 2 reasons - they are the astronomers of Norrath, and they don't hit their heads on everything the way I do at over 6' tall :)

Another combo that may work well is a troubador and dirge - they can both be good OR evil, and between them they have buffs, debuffs, DoTs, regens and decent melee capability. Just start up a mosh pit with the baddies!

I would have to say Brawler/monk and shammy also...Shammy has all those buffs and great heals and brawler/monk can kind of hold the aggro and also have great dmg. I would have to put in there instead of Brawler/monk might wanna try Crusader.
