I will be able to play this game shortly after Xmas, however, a couple of things confuse me. I know it's stupid, and probably answered in many, many other places, but I figured I may as well ask.

I know I want to be a Scout. And, probably a Rogue. If my understanding is correct, which I really doubt it is, the whole 'Subclass' idea concerns me wanting to be a Swashbuckler.

So, that's my preference as of right now, and thus it is why I am posting my question in the Scout forum.

Now for the Incredibly Noobish Question -
If, as I am assuming, given no real proof, at the start of the game I am allowed to choose not only my race but my home, would *any* combination be able to follow the Scout - Rogue (Swashbuckler) path? Or would I have to make certain selections concerning alignment and such? Swashbuckler is 'Good Only,' correct? Then would I be unable to play as an 'Evil Only' race such as the Ratonga?

Basically, what race/location decisions would I have to make, and what paths would I have to follow in order to attain my ideal Class?

... I suppose it's pretty obvious I haven't played EQ before.

im in the same boat as you...
heres what ive learned:

you choose your race at the begining...theres good races, evil races and netural.

if your a good race, after the isle of refuge you go to qeynos
if your a bad race, after the isle of refuge you go to freeport
if your nuteral you can choose

when it comes to the good only and bad only subclasses:

if your a citizen of freeport, and want to be a good only job, you have to do the betrayal quest before level 17 to be a qeynos citizen in order to be your good only job.

same goes the other way too. if you want a bad only job, and your a qeynos citizen, you have to betray and become a member of freeport to do the job.

hope that helps you =)

That's perfect. Thankyou so much for actually deciphering my question. Rate up.

I hear betrayal quests are difficult, so I'm going to have to consider my race in detail.

Oh, one other thing -
Do you choose your class upon character creation? Or do you quest for it?

I know I really should just wait and play the game, but I'm obsessive.

Thanks again!

You'll choose your starting class: fighter, mage, priest, or scout at the beginning of the game. When you hit level 10, you'll specialize into a sub-class. At level 20, you'll specialize again.

edit in: forgot to mention that when you specialize, you will quest for that sub-class.

at character creation you dont pick your archtype (fighter, mage, priest, scout) so for the tuturial, on the ship, your jobless. but when u get on the isle of refuge right there you talk to a guy and choose.

and yea, ive heard the betrayal quest is hard too...im planning on being a dark elf ranger so im going to have to betray freeport...im doing it with a friend though so hopefully we'll be able to do it.

i heard the hardest part is answering the questions because if you get them wrong you have to pay 2 gold.

good luck to both of us =)
