the soloing problem explored in depthFollow

#27 Jan 14 2005 at 8:42 AM Rating: Decent
I play lv34 guardian and becouse of my work I have very odd hours I can play. the last 3 levels I have basically soloed 100%.

I read many sub 20 and low 20 levels whining about not being able to solo exp. It is just one part of our EQ2 life. At that point many classes are not quite developed yet, they look to much a like and there is also some that are more powerfull than others. But do remember there is so much more than just commonsl/antonica or nek/TS. When you get to Zek and EL there is whole lot new things you can solo, quests you solo and so on. It is true that some things you really need a group, like AQ's even thought only thing I needed a group was the 6th part, I had only soloed or teamed with templar before that.
We like to think that the lv we play now is the most important thing but when you get another level or two, you'll notice that all the trouble you had then is gone (ofcourse replaced with another hehe) The game gets harder, much much harder in all levels so also soloing will be dangerous but very much doable. It takes luck and playing skills to venture places like rivervale and come back alive after few hours of exploration. And so remember, not everyone can be dragonslayer, some will always be squires.

well I didn't read EVERY post on the VN board but.. maybe it's just me but I've had no real problems solo'ing.

now that is if you're just grinding XP on mobs.. my predator and especially my conjuror can knock down most things like dominoes, if I'm simply grinding XP.. Honestly the only thing I'd like to see more of are:

a) more wandering solo mobs in some of the more interesting areas such as BB, Fallen Gate, or the Wailing Caves.. those places are very dangerous to solo in due to the strong and / or large groups. I understand that they want people to group in these places but it would be nice to be able to go in there for say.. zombies for a quest.. and not need a group because you just want to get the zombies and get out. But it's unfortunate that you have to wait til mobs are gray to solo quest in zones like these.

b) more higher level solo quest with nice XP reward.. I hear these are coming which is good.

I don't think it's fair to say EQ2 is not a solo game because that's just not the case (this award goes to a different game).. however it's not a 50 / 50 split on solo and group content either.. there is more group content particularly post 20th level.... having taken my conjuror to 21st and my predator to nearly 17th hasn't exactly been difficult.. and most groups with my predator except 2 have resulted in more XP debt than XP gain.

with respect to grouping....

honestly that's been something of a mild disappointment.. there's VAST potential for quest groups who come together, examine the shared quest.. and go out and get them done over the course of a few hours.. but what you normally get with a group is:

camp & fight in the same spot over and over and over... in short.. mob grinding.. bleh I can do that solo and without the decision by committee or arguements of a group situation.

I think SOE does need to add some higher level solo'able mobs in the tighter zones (ESPECIALLY quest mobs) and they need to add more solo quest.. but people playing the game need to get out of the boring mode of "camp and pull".. you have 6 people.. now is the time to do that quest that's red in your journal.. and what do they do... sit there fighting groups of 3 or 4 orcs..

over.. and over... and over...

not even looking for named mobs....=_= sure you get XP, but you're not really getting *anything* done this way.
