Ok, I'm starting to get a little pissed. I get up early to play before work and the servers have gone down... Now this tme I was after Sea Turtles underwater and now I have no idea if I'm dead or not.

I have no idea if there was a system message on my chat window cause I was a little busy fighting, but there was definately no message on my Launchpad, and as week old user I don''t know that they go down everymorning

Well, this is a recent thing started just last week that they are going down once a day...it is kind of upsetting because I just made my druid (mainly because my trou is boring, I don't reccomend making one go dirge if you do).

Yeah, they do go down everyday.
Its at 4am for me though, as I live in New Zealand, so its not so bad.
It is a little bit frustrating, but ah well, I should be sleeping at this time anyway. Heh.
Only half an hour left till they come back up though! Wooo!

WHY do they go down everyday though? I'm in Florida so waking up this late and not being able to play upsets me...

They are back up, and luckily I didn't die.
I don't mind so much if it's regular and they give a some warning or a countdown. If its in the text window, they should have some sort of audio cue that a system message is posted cause I don't always concentrate on that.

Here is my solution to that...make another chat window one for everything but chat (the first 3 boxes)

I know some people get a little frustrated with all of the patches and small fixes almost daily.. and i can understand this. BUT these patches all are for the good of us, the paying customer, the dedicated gamer... they fix the bugs that annoy us and add content which i personally think is worth the hour or so of downtime every day. I am grateful to SOE for this and i try to support them in this, the bettering of this world we call Norath. Lets all give a hand to SOE on a job well done with all of the fixes =)

It is true that SOE is trying hard to do the best they can...so I'll give 'em that

FYI: There is a server reset every day. It's typically only about a 15 min downtime, unless they apply a patch. It's at the same time everyday, and they do it because it helps maintain the overall stability of the server.

Edit: They do count it down. In fact I have seen it notify me at 30 min, 15 min, 5 min, and immediate.

Where have you been? Almost everyday during the week for the last month and a half they bring down the servers for maintenance at 7 AM PST. Geez a single tear rolls down my cheek. Get over it.

*edit* fixed the spelling of maintenance... I know how you young kids who get picked on everyday at school feel about grammer.

it's not almost everyday. It is everyday! Get used to it, that's the price you pay for playing a game so new. And for paying monthly fees to play. what you are actually paying for is for the devs to be constantly fixing things. So please stop whining! It is for the better of the game.

EVERY DAY THEY GO DOWN! PLEASE STOP POSTING ABOUT IT EVERYDAY!!

Stop waking up early, instead stay up and late and sleep in a little longer.

not terribly surprised the servers are consistently rebooted.. just one of those things with servers.

I suppose the idea is that since a lot of the general population are not morning people, it's somewhat safe to reboot them around 7 am...

I'm a morning person.. so that affects me.. I honestly can't sleep late even if I tried, but I know the drill: Server reboot... hmm.. time to fire up the xbox.

honestly after a month+ playing I had no idea the servers were rebooted daily, typically I'm at work around 7am PST.. Next week I have vacation so I'll be up early.. hop into game til the servers reboot.. (I'm in the central time zone so that gives me 2 hours or more) then go do other things while they work on the little boxes that get utterly hammered by us players.

I suppose the options are either:

Wake up earlier and get in some time before the reboot...

or wake up later and not have to worry about the reboot at all...

honestly I'd rather they reboot them daily than watch them get slowly bogged down and play like tar on the server side due to an over-abundance of cached data, databases that eat ram like popcorn and who-knows what else...

And you know what else? Normally the y are down for a like 15 minutes or so. Go take a crap and come back and they are prolly back on. Only recently have they actually been down for an amount of time.

Last week??? Try since it was released! which really sucks for me becuase I can play before work but it goes down at the same time as I can play so i am stuck at 14 since I usually can only play for 20 min before it goes down.

15min a day is better then.. hours a month or some other method. Plus the all in one day method usualy means more problems go on durring the week etc.

Another benfit of sorts is idealy it could be used to detect.. and ban bots. Or least kick em off, if they use an agressive reconnect program it be an easy way mark some one as possible botter if they log on 20 times a minute durring the down time.

if not the weaker bots that dont' relog.. at least their off the server for while after server up.

Negative side ofcourse is the people afk selling stuff in this have to be logged on system.. get kicked off. Selling stuff is never easy =p

I just started playing the game myself (with upgrading my computer and the downtime on the weekend it's been one week) and I've just started getting up early. Make no mistake, I am very happy that they reboot the servers for maintenance.

It's just that I'm used to atleast getting a system wide message and a count down when they do. It's a little un-nerving when I'm underwater and they game just exits ...and then the Launchpad shows the servers all up message.

as for expecting this out of a new game I can understand the game being new and getting the bugs out, but then one wonders what beta testing is for.. If I buy a new car I don't expect it to occationally not start.

They always have several server messages before downtime. If you filter out your chat windows a bit you'll see them.
#20 Dec 22 2004 at 9:20 PM Rating: Decent
hrmmm... A good suggestion thanks. I need to do that, although a an audio 'ding' for a system wide message would be nice too. :)
#21 Dec 22 2004 at 9:22 PM Rating: Good
Most people wouldn't hear it with all of the other sounds going on.

I've found that customizing my chat windows (I have three that I use) really helps me to not miss anything that I need to see, and it also allowed me to filter out the things that I didn't want to see. :)

I'm living in HK and thus this affects the players here most since the downtime is the prime time for most gamers here. This arrangement is okay in this early stage but if the system becomes more stable, resetting the server everyday is not a good arrangement, rather half day maintenance per month is much better.
