Bayle. I've played on both, and while Lucan does have an RP community, the majority of the roleplayers are on AB.
Of course, there is a much higher server load too, so lag is a big issue. If you're just a casual role player, Lucan will be fine. There is a strong enough community there to make you happy without all the lag.

There does seem to be a lot of non-RP people on AB. I have absolutely no idea why they are there.
In EQ there were different game mechanics on the RP server and that led to many people going there to take advantage of this rather than RP.
In EQ2 there is no reason whatsoever to create a character on an RP server and then moan in /ooc about people RPing. Alright everyone may have a different opinion about what RP is but some of the silly discussions I see are just astonishing.

I agree 100% I play on Lucan and there is little lag in the main cities and thats it really. But, when peopel moan and complain about /shout RPing (shout IMHO is just a RP channel to me)it really makes me wonder how intelligent they are to go on a RP server and not to complain...I play a Dark elf and he hates rats and cats and just makes fun of everything else and I've been told off for that because ti isn't "true RP"

There are quite a few non roleplayers on AB and Lucan. Since it's only RP "preferred", I guess they see that as good enough reason to harass the roleplayers. It's frustrating.
I'll interject here and give a reason why non-RPers would play on a RP server: all my friends like to RP. I've given it a fair shake and it's not for me, but they really seem to love it. When we group they speak in character and I...don't really speak at all. We have a separate private channel to b.s. OOC, which is where I do most of my talking.
In addition, as it's been stated many times, the RP crowd seems to generally be a lot more polite and mature. Anytime I sense that on a server, I'm creating all my characters there regardless of how it's tagged. I blame all of you for being decent people and luring me to the server. d(^.^)
My only gripe is the RP *****. RP-preferred is not synonymous with RP-required. I know you want your own RP server and I'm all for that, but for now, we all have a right to be there. RPers also need to understand that the rules are different in a MMORPG. It's not OK to KS, train, talk down to people whose names aren't pink, etc., in this environment. Some of us have other reasons to be on the server. I won't make fun of your faux accent if you don't make fun of my awkward geek speak.
