Maybe it is something that comes with level.

I am starting to see examples of KoS mobs which do not path or warp back to their spawn point when their target dies or zones. They wander back and seem quite happy to attack people in the way. Especially if you are in a position near where they were pulled from (but out of aggro range if they had not been pulled).

This is not surprising behaviour in the sense that it is a bit wierd to see mobs that would happily kill you if you were 50 yards down the corridor just sail past.

However I have yet to see anyone call a train. I know we come here from all sorts of backgrounds and this might not have happened in other games but when dragging half a dozen KoS mobs through other groups it used to be normal to at least warn them.

What makes it particularly bad in EQ2 is the quests that merely require you to visit a location. I was in a dungeon the other day where there is such a quest and what players were doing was running into a room full of KoS mobs until their journal updated and then run for the zone dragging the whole roomful behind them - unengaged and loose. We were fighting at a "safe spot" out of aggro range of the room but the mobs would jump us on their way back if we didn't take care.

What's the consensus?
A. People should call trains
B. So long as I zoned WTF do I care
C. Mobs should not attack until properly introduced - /petition

Trains should be called. I wonder if that is something that was mainly only done in EQ1?

As a frequent bringer of trains (lol aggro loves me), all I can say is I haven't quite figured out how to configure those buttons yet. If it's getting to be a problem, guess I need to take the time to get that taken care of. Thanks for the polite nudge. (LOL when my server comes back up, that is....<sigh> still down).

It can happen alot.. EQ1.. FFXI.. ragnarok was one the worst.

Main problem ofcourse is people zoning in.. or loging on not having a chance half time. By time zone loads up their dead. Thus keeping monsters at zone.

or people runing into the returning train.. brining it back. I'm not sure how they could fix it being totaly fair.. to the people getting trained.. and the person running for their life from a real danger. (not just people rushing in for quest)

Shouting a warning is helpful.. but not really a solution either.. doesn't always give you enough time. if in a battle your own and such.

I have a feeling that a lot of people don't know that numlock toggles autorun, allowing you to speak while moving and therefore announce trains. I try to announce them when I can, however, in a lot of terrain, such as the tunnels in SH or in some areas where if you're not careful and leave autorun on toolong, you'll end up running over a cliff and meeting doom at the nasty hands of the earth itself, it can be just too dangerous to let things go for a second and say something.

I wish there was a fix for that, and maybe the solution is simply a one-word train, but still, I have a feeling the problem is only in part due to an erosion in politeness.

Actually the solution is a social hotkey that shouts out a train warning.
Just go to your socials menu and click the macro tab, and create a macro with a command of something like the following:
/shout Train to zone

/shout Heads up! Train to Zoneline!

/shout Folks, it is my extreme displeasure to announce the arrival of a train! Rangers and gnomes first!!

You can even edit it for the zone you are presently hunting.

Once you have the macro made, drag it your hot key box and now all you have to do is click the box to shout a warning.

Sidenote: This is actually what the shout channel is really for anyway. This is why people get irritated by people using it to ask questions or call LFG. We see the red text of shout and think "What now and where do I have to go to get outta the way!"

Who hasn't accidently bumped the other hotkey? I did it all the time in EQI "yeah i think i'll forage now" *casts snare on main puller* oops sry man *shouts druid lfg* *shouts sry* finally gets some food normally in that order 2 lol, but people should definayly call the trains.

I agree but one problem I have found is that people don't always run towards a "zone line". Unlike EQ1, where you had to zone, alot of these are just being led around until they reach their stopping point. I have seen several train messages and never saw the train. What would really help is when someone is pulling a train (and usually running past mobs and pulling MORE agro)....DON"T RUN TOWARDS OTHER PLAYERS. If you see another player, DON'T go that way. I do agree however that a train message in "instances" (one way in/out) would be nice. I think that Sony Needs to put out a message during one of their updates that broken encounters/trained agro mobs CAN and WILL agro. I don't believe anyone is training on purpose BUT the misconception is that these mobs won't attack others. WRONG

I am starting to see the following tactic. While someone is running off a mob (xyz type, but in any case way way to large for ANY one person to handle) they are a distance away and parrallel to you, and then make a beeline for you.

I think there are two reasons. They think you can help them, or they are deliberatly trying to sluff the mob off on you. I have had clear cases of each.

Trains happen, period. Whether by mistake, or intentional (yes there is always some mayhem causing ****** who loves to **** in everyones cereal). The bottom line is to keep the level of courtesy within tolerable limits, so we can all have fun.
Experienced players should try to teach the inexperienced the basics if possible.
Personally, all my most vivid memories of EQ1 are my bad experiences with trains (Crushbone and Unrest in the early days)
I was lucky enough to have a few patient players teach me and they are lessons that I passed on to others. It helped me get a good reputation, and I made friends because of it.
Now that we are all an EQ2 community, lets try to keep things above the KinderCare level that EQ1 became within the first two years. And for all those who don't want to listen, just remember who they are (I keep a Book of Grudges next to my monitor) and keep them out of your groups. A few weeks of not getting quality playing time tends to straighten out most or at least makes them change servers.
We are all responsible for the quality of our servers (not just SOE). Let's act like we care about our community, and we'll all have more fun.

You know, I got to thinking about this very subject the other day and this is what my wee wittle mind came up with.....

What if.....Everyone had a social macro that shouted when they were pulling a group of baddies toward the zoneline/other players?

What if.....Everyone would jump in and help the guy who had activated /y and was fleeing toward the zoneline/other players?

What if.....Young/Inexperienced MMO players actually paid attention to the warning above a MOB's head that said GROUP?

What if.....Everyone in a group would flee when the fight gets too tough and someone calls for help rather than half the group sticking around to try and "Hold the MOB at bay," EQ1/FFXI style so that everyone else could zone? (Bad idea with SHARED XP, people)

What if.....We could figure out a way to communicate to the players who obviously don't read this forum, and should?

Wanna know the answer?

WORLD PEACE!

Trains should be called, but /shout seems to be used too much for /ooc on my server (LavaStorm). Also, /shout is too large an area most times. When I'm bailing out, I really want a /yell type command that is limited to players within the area where I may pull the train until they give up. A /shout TRAIN!! in Antonica isn't much help.

How about a '/lookout' command which can only be heard within a hundred meters or so?

I agree that it's polite to call incoming train before running to a zone. I hafta admit I'm still getting weened off of FFXI still getting comfortable with the controls, and quite often in too much of a panic to remember. Seems like in EQ2 mobs seem to lose intrest before I even get to the zone.

On the flipside there are people who literally set up camp at a zone, and are generally the first to complain if someone trains a mob. Seems to me they should realize that standing by the zone in a hostile area isn't a guaranteed safe spot.
