#1 Dec 19 2004 at 12:29 AM Rating: Default
I am quitting Star Wars Galaxies do to how they ruined the game and was wondering how you like EQ2? Is there a lot of content is the arena/pvp good? What are the houses in this game like? What is the leveling like? I am just trying to figure out if i should go to this game or World of Warcraft or wait for another good RPG. I liked SWG and it's whole AI but they didnt have enouogh content and it was a very unbalanced game.

eq2 is awesome

theres no pvp yet

good zones

good classes and races

good quests

graphics are really good depending on how good your computer is

you start with a little apartment type room then you can buy mantions and more rooms and all kinds of furniture and stuff

grouping is pretty fun so far

Click the upper right hand buttons "World of Warcraft" and go check out Alla's WoW sight. Go to the guides and, for example, read up on the one for getting a Hunter from lvl 1 to 20.

Eq2 doesn't have anything like this - for a Hunter to get a pet in WoW he has to go find a beast, train it, and keep it happy. If it dies he rezzes it - and he has to keep it fed. He has to learn new ways to train his pet and he has to teach it - and he can control whether it uses its abilities automatically or on command. Different pets do different things, too.

That's just one example. I'm telling you this because I have to be honest, while there are aspects of EQ2 I like a lot, there are more and more parts that either drive me crazy or bore me to screaming tears.

Soloing is as boring as can be imagined in EQ2, and group play isn't much better. It's like they put all their energy into the graphics and none into what "the next level of combat" for mmos would be. In fact they borrowed combat from FFXI and DaoC, pretty much.

Don't get me wrong, there's so much to do in eq2 that it'll keep you busy for a while. I'm not really inspired to get in there and "attack" the game, however - it doesn't "absorb" me like old eq did.

I don't think evilgnome did anything wrong.

Someone came here to ask about the game and was specifically looking for PvP. EQ2 has no PvP and it is not on the development list. Anyone telling you different is just wishful thinking. So directing him to a game which does allow PvP seems like the kind thing to do here.

Surely you're not advocating lying to him about EQ2?

I think evilgnome is still upset about the server issues over the weekend. Anyhow I am enjoying EQ2 alot, lots of quests to keep you busy, there could be a bit more solo content but it's not bad.

When will the arena get started? I appreciate the opinion evilgnome because I haven't bought either games yet. I really like pvp because it requires a lot of strategy. But if EQ2 isn't gonna have an arena or a duel system or any sort of pvp I am not going to buy it.

theres arenas in eq2 already but it says they're closed

Daask, don't look forward to pvp in EQ2 anytime soon.

I just want an arena to be open otherwise im gonna go to WoW maybe to FFXI again but that was boring.

I think you should go to WoW then.. since EQ2 is primarily a PVE game..

IF and/or When any type of PVP is coming to EQ2 only the developers know, and they're not saying. The official line is no PVP in EQ2. Personally I don't care for PVP so it's not my thing.. but if that's your "cup of tea" so to speak.. that's where you should look.

edit: oh as for the origional question.. loving every minute of EQ2.

Thanks Cobra! You cheered me up. Posters like the one who dissed me ... they get on my nerves after a while.

Not all players belong in eq2. Frankly I'm not sure I do, either. I was just telling the thread-started to give WoW a serious look. I am, too. It's strong where EQ2 is weak (WoW has its probs, tho, too).

Again, I'm still diggin stuff in eq2 It's a big, full world. I picked up the Gnoll Mastery quest finally, and - it makes no logical sense - but it made gnoll huntin more fun somehow. Now I have a cool poleax on my wall.

But as the novelty of eq2 wears off, I can already see that I'm going to burn out on it pretty fast. WHy? No depth of tactics. We have to do a lot of fighting, and there just isn't much challenge to it. And where there is, I'm not given the variety of tools to win by finesse. I can only win by recruiting a bigger group to throw at the situation. Not good.

WoW offers a bigger variety of tactics.

BUT while Eq2 was dead I opened a free account on Anarchy Online. Dang that's still a cool game. Still looks good, and it's OLD. It was full of people, too. The thread-starter may wanna take a look at it, too. Honestly, it is FREE for a year.
