Accelerated experience early next week...Follow

#1 Dec 19 2004 at 12:15 AM Rating: Decent
Just read this post from SOE. I have to voice my rave...If SOE is going to accelerate experience would it not make since to coincide this acceleration maybe next Friday night and Saturday so that the customers who generally play at this time, and who have lost basically all their weekend gaming time have a chance to benefit?

Don't get me wrong i think it's a great gesture from SOE...but at least schedule it so that the people who were affected by the crash (the weekend players) are compensated as well as those who play 24/7.

This post is open for discussion. I would really like to here others views on this topic. If this topic has been broached previously, I apologize for the recap...someone just add to thread and tell me where to read info =)

I think the idea is that most people can only play a few hours on the weekday. I have no idea how much they plan on accelerating it but lets say 3x so that if you play for 5 hours you'll get 15 hours worth of exp hopefully enough to make up the lost time, if it was 3x on the weekend people could and mostlikely will play 16 hours or more giving 48 hours of exp in one day. would couse more harm then good basicly powerlvling toons by several lvls. not to mention the insane amount of stress it would put on the server all day during the weekend.

They want to compensate us for the time lost, not give us bonus exp

Well obviously this can't replace the time lost but it's a sincere gesture. Think about the 2 extremes:

1) I was working friday and saturday and have monday because of winter break ^o^ off. all i do is play video games. i play 10 hours monday and get 30 hours of exp.

2) I had friday and saturday off and am working monday like most working people do and can only play a couple of hours (if that)

see what i mean? not necessarily fair but i guess it's nice. Maybe I am saying this because I just finished exams and have 2 weeks off, but it's better than giving nothing...

Very valid point.

My only beef is that there are a lot of us who play on the weekends and quite possibly won't have the oppurtunity at all to reap the benefit

But, I do admit, you do indeed have a very valid view. The last thing i think any of us wants is another major crash due to server stress.

I totally agree with Msytlord. Most of the asians in Malaysia might not be able to reap the benefits as we game more during the weekends and seldom during the weekdays.
Probably like maybe 3 hours gaming on weekdays at the max.

It's a nice gesture of SOE to give us accelerated XP but maybe they would think about giving us individual time other than 2 days.
Example: Each player has about 10 or 15 hours of accelerated Xp when he or she plays or something like that.

Yeah :P i know it's far fetched but can't blame a guy for hoping can ya? :)

anyways just my 2cp

cheers

this was just posted on the eq2 forums

We wanted to thank you for your patience with the issues that we've needed to deal with over the last several hours. As a small token of our appreciation, we have increased experience gain for both adventuring and tradeskilling. This additional bonus will continue for 48 hours, starting with our normal update on Sunday morning at 7AM PST, and last until our update of Tuesday morning. Once again, thank you for your patience, and incredible support.

Appreciate that latest update. I for one would have to say...awesome cover SOE. Should make a lot of people happy. I find it more than reasonable, I mean wow 48 hours of accelerated exp. While i can probably only play for a while Sunday...I think the time frame they are now offering (Sunday) is great!

(Provided Steamfont is even up by then hehe )

Personally, I found their "gifts" to be a slap in the face. Three free days? I already lost two and counting (Steamfont still down). So they give me one free day.. 50 cents? Get real. Go buy a homeless dude a cup of coffee and keep my 50 cents please.

Excelerated exp for 48 hours. Stupid, just plain stupid. The point of this game is to enjoy the journey. Sure, many people like to keep up with the Jones's and make sure they are leveling fast enough, but no one could level the past two days anyways. There just isn't any point at all to the accelerated exp (and my guess is it will be so minor you won't even notice it).

Exp debt wipe? My guess is due to the so called hardware issue they couldn't keep track of it anyways (as it deteriates real time, and they obviously had some major problems, likely totally ******** up exp debt). On top of that, nearly everyones exp debt would have been wiped anyways.

What I would really like is my Friday and Saturday night fix of EQ2 back, but they can't give me that. They screwed something up royally on this one, and when you do that in business (which this is for them), you kiss your customer's tush and hope they forgive you. I hardly consider their gestures kissing my tush.

Oh, and the problem with this upcoming Fri/Sat is that it's Xmas... and the following weeked is New Years.

I would also guess that modifying the exp rate requires them to take the servers down, making any form of personalized time frame impossible.

To the OP:

I don't think giving us the accelerated exp and other goodies would go over well next weekend. That's Christmas and I don't think too many people will be playing. Smiley: grin

To Revilo, and whoever thinks SOE is not compensating enough:

I'd like to ask you all one question: what do you want? Really I mean since the crash has already happened and the day has passed there's nothing, NOTHING SOE could do to bring you back the weekend. So if you think you're being screwed by SOE just because you cannot play the game for one day, sure you can leave the game and move on to another game. If you think you can't let SOE get away like this then perhaps you can hire a lawyer to sue them and teach them a lesson. If you think you're a paying customer but you're not getting the entertainment for this one day and think SOE must give you back something, let me remind you, that day is worth $0.5 and if this amount count so much to your hard earn cash, then my suggestion to you is stop gaming because you simply cannot afford it. Really I mean it.

Whatever happened to wiping out the EXP Debt. GRRRR i got like a 50% debt going. Darn i guess it was a dream. =P
#15 Dec 19 2004 at 7:50 AM Rating: Decent
they were only wiping current debt so if you had any debt before the crash its gone... they arent removeing debt from the game

WEll, to shed a little light without giving out undue details.

1) Thier explination of what happen was false, its a fictional story to please the minds of gamers, Infact at one point the dev's actually planed to total wipe and compinsate with another free gaming month and accelerated exp gains.

2) The above situation was then changed again, cause they was able to piece data back to restore to just a earlier time the morning of the even. This gives them a easier method of repreave.

3) Yall questioning all this is total crap anyhow, they been tehre 40+ hours working thier tails off while your sitting in your chair at your house bitzing about not being able to play a game?!? Common, get a life guys, GO out to a movie, Visit that bright yellow thing outside called the sun for a change. Hell, I bet half the gamers here could burn outside in 10mins or less . . .

Anyhow, Due to someone taking powers into thier own hands, this happen, cause they was childish and felt the need to hurt everyone else for thier misfortune. Seeing as how you don't have to start over and rebuild cause of a maliccious act of someone out there, you might wanna just sit back relax and flow with it.

Look at it this way. You've just been given a very fortunate break in EQ2 gaming. Instead of ground Zero again you still have characters with only minor setbacks if any. Myself I spend 3 hours online before that all happen, all of it was wiped out by this too, and I've already arose from that point redone all those things and then some in less time thismorning.

So stop yaping and just look onto the time you'll be able to power game for extra exp. I know I'll enjoy that, if nothing more then for getting a step back closer with friends during those times....

Kano, what I want is what I PAY for, to be able to play and enjoy my hobbie called EQ2. This entire weekend was basically lost already, and your right they can't give me that back.

What I asked for was a substantial "were very sorry for ******** you over". 50 cents isn't substantial at all, in fact if you read my post, I told them to keep it (so your comment about me not being able to afford playing a game was rather stupid).

It is not necessarily up to me to decide what they should give me, it is up to them. However, I would consider a free month substantial. I don't consider 3 days substantial, especially when I already lost 2 of them not being able to play anyways. All they are really doing is saying "hey.. guess what were not going to CHARGE you for not being able to play". Gee thanks, what great customer service.

In truth, I did some RL things the last two days. Some of it I really needed to get done, so all in all I'm really not upset at all about this. However, if downtime like this continues they will simply lose my business.

Okay Revilo... You argument is that you lost 2 days and you are only getting 3 days free so they are only really giving you 1 day for free. You don't feel that is sufficient.

I could however, without considering how many days you lost, state that they gave you 50% more than you lost. Now considering by law they only owe you what you lost, offering you 50% more than you lost is reasonably generous.

On top of that they also are giving you increased advancement opportunities, again without being asked or required to in any way.

Actually I am quite please with the compensation we received, especially considering how lost days in the original EQ were only compensated by an ever more rapid increase in Brad's public disdain for us players. Getting faster XP gain and free time is Hella better than getting Shat upon like they we used to.

I honestly don't know what the big fuss is all about, Things happen that we can't control. Life goes on. As I stated in a previous post on another thread. People like to complain, anything they can complain about, they will. Trying to stop them is like trying to stop the earth from rotating, or running in the opposite direction in order to go back in time to recover your lost EQ2 time. I am also more than satisfied with what they are giving us. as I had almost not played at all last week due to circumstances beyond my control I had been looking forward to playing into the wee hours both friday and saturday. Alas, I could not...so I spent my time reading the forums for a little while enjoying everyones thoeries on what was wrong and bashing soe and being kind enough to let me know that they were quitting and going to some game called wow. Well, isn't that special. I'm sure not everyone shares my opinion, but it's simply that I don't care. So what if I didn't play this weekend? I'm a jew, I'll play on christmas, and christmas eve...and my office is closed on thursday and friday so I'll play then to. Anything to avoid watching It's A Wonderful Life. Though if they show A Christmas Story, Jingle All The Way, Bad Santa, or The Year Without Santa...I'm all over that. Oh and I guess I won't play Christmas Day afternoon when I go to the movies and out for Chinese. Unless the servers are down. then I'll be right back on here pissing, moaning, and bashing SOE. Or doing something else. I don't know, I don't care. again It's $15 a month, so I'm only losing $0.25 a day or something like that. I waste more money than that on plenty of other things I'm not seeing a return on. So, it's not a big loss. Flame me, belittle me, rate me down or whatever for my opinion, but if you get yourself in a huff over something as trivial as this...than in MY OPINION your priorities are a little wacked. But thats just me, but what do I know? I'm just a jew, a lonely jew...on christmas.

Moaning about getting 3 (or rather, 1 as you say) free days and 48hrs of accelerated experience?
What is wrong with you people?
Would you rather they did nothing and said 'Well, server downtime is just something that happens and you'll just have to accept it'?
Think youself lucky that you got something, because if I worked at Sony and copped all that they had to over the servers being down because of a simple human error (we all make mistakes ya know, noone is perfect) then I wouldn't of given anyone anything for free.
