Why The Rollback?Follow

Anyone know the 'official' reason that SoE took the comparatively drastic step of doing a full server rollback?

Gee, well, characters corrupted to the point where quest journals were empty and spells/arts were vanishing? Sounds like a good reason to me to restore to the last known-good state.

Rollbacks are nothing new, it's just that this one was over a larger timeframe. And yes, everything was getting corrupted because the "patch" they uploaded turned out to be faulty code.

I quess my original post might've come across as sarcastic or cynical, but that wasn't my intention. I honestly hadn't heard what precipitated the rollback and thought I'd ask here.

As for rollbacks being nothing new...mebbe. But I can't recall ever (this going back to the late 80s) seeing one happen in a game that I played. Perhaps one did and my memory, in my old age, is getting faulty. But I really can't recall one.

I noticed that if I'm playing and the server goes down (and it isn't announced) there will be a slight rollback from 5-10 minutes or so. And this only happened during the first week or two, because I don't think they've ever brought down a server while I was on it since.
