from what ive read, its basically there to make you look cool. and the only thing it really does do if you get aggroed and your running it will give you enough time to get out safely (it starts attacking) but i having nothing to back that up

There is a group of Trainers in Elddar Grove near the North Qeynos Zone. One is a froglok, One is a Kerra and I can't remember off the top of my head the other ones but there are in a little circle wall next to the big wall. Hope this helps.

This thing is absolutely worthless! A box pops up that has buttons to select what you want the pet to do. It has a attack button, which it will not do. It has a attack anyone attacking me button...which,again,it will not do. Also has a attack anyone attacking the pet button....nada to this also. It WILL stay put if asked and as worthless as it is,you may use this alot. It doesn't defend you when you're hit, won't do crap when you're running or yelling help...it is absolutely worthless....don't bother.....

That would be because it is a fun spell that is not suppose to be game altering. Every class at 20 gets a fun spell, my dirge has a song that makes another group member morn. If you want a bird that will folow you buy the spell, if not save your silvers.

Gee Sportty... don't hide your feelings... tell us what you really think!

The hunting hawk is one of the "fluff" spells and is just for fun, like the free horse that Pallys get or the warden spell "dust storm".

The reason you get a set of pet controls is because technically, it is a pet. The reason the controls are grayed out is because it's a fluff spell and not meant to affect the flow of the game. If they had needed to make a special control interface just for the hunting hawk, we probably wouldn't have gotten it at all!

BTW - you also can't bring him with you when you ride a griffon. He must be dismissed first. Now I'll bet you really hate him!

Do you need a specific expansion to get it ? I checked locations told and still can't find merchant....

No expansions are needed for the purchase of any fluff spell. All (up to lvl 50) were available when the core game was first released. Check the ranger trainer in the Eldaar Grove treehouse again... it should be there and available for purchase along with the lvl 30 spell, lvl 40 spell etc.

Of course if you make it lvl 65 you do get a hawk that attacks. I call it a DOT really since its limited to attacking once and then it disappears instead of following you around. It's cool anyway, though. Just make it to 65. You can do it!!! lol

Just a note on the hawk. As a raiding ranger it was removed from my hotbar. Not only is the CA broken and doesnt work properly it dies easily to AEs (some mobs spawn adds, heal etc when a PC death occurs and it is a PC), breaks stealth, doesnt deaggro like its advertised.

Many threads on SOEs boards are posted about this, most of us just gave up and removed it. It has even been reported to return aggro it gains to the ranger using it if it dies to the mob before completion. Not fun.
