Where should i go to mine and chop wood and get all that great stuff to become an outfitter?? and do i need to buy a pick axe from a vender will it help me mine??

dont buy axe - it does nothing.
And about gathering well you have to start in tier 1 which is by your city, then go to tier 2 (commons or antonica) and so on and so on.
One thing I would advise - dont go outfitter, I play on 2 servers and MOST of players chose outfitter, they spend load of tiem and money to get to lvl 20 max and they give up couse there is too much compettion, and no profit

there is a harvesting guide here, and it has rares in bold type. it's listed by tier and zone, and includes tiers 1 through 5, and lists the actual names of confirmed nodes and possible harvests from them.

there are also some good startup guides for tradeskilling on that site.
