well my friends goin mystic cuz he wants to be a bear rather than a rat which is deflers first form. they are both equally good and i guess its just a matter of bear or rat. no i think im wrong about rat whatever just pick which one looks cooler.

Rat form is actually the fun spell, wraith for is the actual equal of bear form, which is a HP/PP, AC, see invis buff

well from the spell list with descriptions posted here..

It seems mystic's mostly heal and buff.

While defilers drain hp from enemies (to themselves and allies) while debuffing enemies.

Some buffs for allies as well specialy in str.. but beyond reversed spells it does seem rather even.

Ofcourse it also migth come down to race... most the evil ones are not to high in wisdom...

So far i'm thinking dark elf.. trolls just don't have the smarts in eq2.. i loved troll shaman before though it was fun.

Race matters very little in choosing class. At 33rd level there is about a 10% difference in wisdom from playing a troll vs. a dark elf.

Defiler is a great class. Very balanced and a lot of fun to play. I can handle being the main healer (especially with a brawler tank), can debuff like mad and have three DOTs that I can stack at once.

Thus far I don't have any problem keeping up with a cleric in healing, and have actually seemed to get better at it as I get more spells.

If the distill soul gives back power.. as well, I could imagine defilers being quite a good healer.

not mention that healing spell they get that cost hp more then power.

Distill soul actually creates stones that I pass out to the party. Party members can then macro these stones to cast a heal spell on themselves when needed. They do help in an emergency.

A cleric will always have a better selection of heal spells for a heavily armored tank, but we do well enough to handle main healer regardless of tank. Brawler just makes our job much easier.

Im only a 19 shaman but I have reviewed the defiler spells extensively and though about how they work in combat. It seems a lot of the spells are double effect. Heal/ward, Ward/poison attack, Cure/heal, Debuff/ward, and stuff like that. I think it's going to be very interesting come lvl 30 or 40 to ensure you are using the right spell at the right time. The thing I find most interesting is that a ton of the spells provide a benefit to the group while hurting the enemy. It sorda turns us into a damage dealing healer. That'll be real fun!

I agree with Arkelias, Defilers are a great class. I am lvl 24, and as far as I'm concerned, they are one of the best soloing classes in the game. Obviously every class must group at some point, but they solo very well I think. They add very much to the group, all kinds of debuffs. Plus, if you can afford to, making a heal spell adept III will do wonders for you. Seeings how it's like 1 heal per every 8 lvls. But if everything goes well, you shouldn't have to heal all that much. Which is the great thing about them, they debuff and ward so much, that sometimes you just don't need to heal. =) GL and have fun.

yup i got one to about 23 as well now..

had restart though, cause friend on another server... and I REALLY messed up racial traits.. and selected str buff on acident at the personal traits...

oops =p I agree though, from spell list it seems defilers not only have a latent heal efffect on alot of wards/buffs, but do dmg at same time unlike other proc heals.

I've made lvl 22 with my defiler now and am starting to understand the difference between a straight healer, a mystic, and a defiler. For example, if I am in a group and the mob is a tough fight such as an orange++ I will debuff it with my first 2 casts. The debuffs reduce attack speed, str, int, wis, and sta I believe. This means the mob hits less often, not as hard, and can't cast as much (if a caster type of course). After that I will toss a ward and go take a nap.

Now, I believe if I were a mystic I would have been casting heals and wards instead of my debuffs. The mystics will provide the better damage absorb and heals whereas a defiler prevents the damage from occuring. If your group is fighting multiple hard hitting mobs that have low hps the mystic is probably going to be the better healer though the defiler will hold his own. If your group is fighting single or double pulls on mobs that have a lot of hps the defiler will be the better healer because they wont have to heal as much. Either class is a perfectly good healer and can easily be main healer in a group. The extent of how well each class will comparatively speaking is situational.
