FIGHT FOR PVP!!Follow

#27 Dec 18 2004 at 11:47 AM Rating: Default
Wait... I have a solution!! An expansion for PvP, no other features just PvP.. and if you don't want PvP, don't purchase it! Others should be able to watch the field battles and such but not participate unless they bought the PvP x-pac.

ON second though!

Make a server PvP and Hardcore. No monsters to fight just other players. Only the baddest meanest dog lives!

While they're at it, just rename the game Everquake.

If you really want PvP have a look at this one.

They are promising

large head-to-head guild battles

Personally it's always seemed a bit silly in EQ and EQ2 doesn't seem any better disposed to it.

Just to give you an idea of how stupid it can get in EQ:

One night I was watching on my trader when someone offered a prize for a tournament for under level 10 in the Arena. EQ has arena areas where any player can attack any other. Anyway he got about a dozen low level players all came to the arena expecting to compete for a reward and some high level nuked the lot of them stone dead..

I guess some people find different things amusing.

There are 2 reasons I wish EQII stay the way it is and not allow PvP.

1) PvP seems to attract players that are more into the competitive aspect of gaming and, having played CS for over 2 years, are very vocal about their gaming prowess as well as loving to taunt and trash talk others.

2) "All mages get see invis and I can't sneak up on them and kill them! They always root, run and nuke me to death! Its not fare! SOE, remove that spell or make it where blah blah blah...."

Number 1 ads nothing to the current EQ community or to the questing part of EQ. It will create its own community but I would not like to see it spill over into the current one. PvE and adventuring have nothing in common with PvP.

Number 2 is a whine fest with classes that feel they are underpowered. This game is balanced to be PvE and the way the different classes can solo creatures is through their specific conditions. Mages and Priests try to put some space between themselves and their enemies to begin nuking. Scouts sneak up and begin the backstab fest. And Fighters try not to get caught with their pants down by the other 3 classes. Throw those same classes at each other and the loser will always whine about overpowered Mages, Priests, Scouts or Fighters. I've seen it a million times before.

Adding the option for arena fights and duels will cause the same problems as number 2. FFXI has their Ballista feature for PvP. The winners tend to be the TaruTaru Black Mages that come in and nuke all to hell. In PvE they would be instantly dead if they tried to do that... in PvP they are the kings of the hill. We will also have to deal with counter posts saying "Well, SOE did this on purpose. They made (your defended class here) weak in PvE but they are very strong in PvP. Its part of the design, get over it. Go cry to mommy if you can't play with the big boys. Learn some tactics."

I believe this game does not need the above community.

I'm fine wit dueling, it makes downtime on guild raids more fun :P

I loved dueling guildmates in EQ1, my necro was quite good at it! It was fun trying to avoid letting a rogue get to your back, as your pet ran around beating on em....

Being said, general PvP DOES bring out angry kiddies, and a quest for LEETness. Sad.

Another thing to remember is that in some games that are made with PVP as the main way of fighting, it still doesn't go over too well.

SWG is what I'm talking about. Yes, I know there were issues with balance between the professions, but leaving that aside, people still didn't really PVP much after the first few months. It was mostly PVE. Now, I haven't played since the space expansion came out, so I don't know what they're doing in that game now. I just know that for the first year when I played, PVP wasn't a big priority with most of the players.

Evil vs good.
No in town pvp
Can not group with or assist people outside your side OR above or below a 5 level limit.
PvP within 5 level limit.

I think it could work. And if i was a betting man, I would bet a feew hundred bucks that there will be 2-3 pvp servers in about 6 months.

a dueling system like in eq1 would be cool

Obviously EQ2 would be better if Qeynos and Freeport were at war, PVP style you morons. >_<

There are plenty of games that can provide you with your PvP fix. Go try one or all of them and leave those of us who enjoy PvE alone. If you try to balance a game for one, you can't balance it for the other.

so...having pvp servers would somehow effect you? even if your on a pve server? and it has nothing to do with you? duels and arenas where you dont have to fight if you dont want to inturrupts your playing? **** no think about it

i dont see why douches and old people have to ruin it for everyone else

Douches and old people?

Eh. I don't see why flamers have to ruin it for respectable people of ALL ages. Really the name calling is a bit much, don't you think?

My opinion: Duel PvP = ok. If you don't want to do it, don't. I don't get big on PvP, not my thing. I don't think it should be FORCED. Like in L2. UGH!!! Open PvP= sucky. Very sucky. That's a big reason I'm NOT in WoW, I don't know exactly how their system works, but a game that focuses so heavily on PvP is not my thing.

Anyway, having a duel system would be ok, if you want to do it....do it....but you don't have to and it wouldn't affect the rest of the game in any way. But if they never have PvP, it wouldn't hurt my feelings either.

I personally have no interest in PvP and if they make it serverwide i will cancel my account and go elsewhere.

If they make a PvP server thats fine but i won't be touching it with a barge pole.

At this point, if you want PvP so bad, go play WoW. I hope it never comes to EQ2.

Me personally i love pvp and I hope it gets integrated into EQ2. I was wondering though if they have plans on opening the arena soon because it was promised with the game....even though SOE make a lot of empty promises...coughcoughGalacticCivilWarBattlefieldscoughcough. I love PvE but i also like to be able to test my abilities against other players. PvE doesn't prove to require as much strategy as it used to. It's all brute strength

why would you hope it never comes to eq2

just because you dont want it alot of people do

and im sure not everyone playing wants to just drop their account for WoW

Umm Because i don't want some prick Zerging me when i am tring to enjoy my evening?

In my experiance PvP involves ambushing some poor b*stard who is minding thier own business and trying to enjoy the game.

Then you obviously know nothing about pvp. There usually is a duel system where you consent eachother for a duel. In big pvp raids you usually have to be a declared faction before they can attack you. They can't just attack some neutral begginer at level 5.

Not on Ralloz Zek buddy, go and do some homework. the only part of that statement that is true of SONY PvP is the level restriction.

EQ1 PvP means if you are within 7 level of that person you may freely attack them, regardless of if they are in a battle with a Mob, another player or AFK, corpse camping is common and high testosterone teenagers trying to be "Da Ubah Roxxor Wizzad!!!!111!!oneone!!!" is more so.

Even on Blue servers, the annoyance of having to turn down duels from dipsh*ts that where acting hard was more trouble than the 1 person per day who attually duelled another player.

If they make a PvP server as i stated i would be fine with that but serverwide PvP would see me finding a new game, or going back to an old one.

As previously statd, they should have an expansion for PvP: Duel pvp, field pvp, party pvp, and raid pvp. And PvP would be cool in town, too.. but that'd never be allowed. They should have an expansion with JUST pvp, no other features what-so-ever. That way only fighters would want it, and everybody wins. Since it only features pvp, it should retail at say $20-$30. And you should be able to fight people of your own alignment as well.

I'd like to see PvP in some form down the road. With proper regulation (in the form of level and zone restrictions, perhaps), SOE should be able to create a solid PvP environment perfectly suited to the game's current setting (war between two factions, etc). I personally think a true no-rules "chaos" server would be interesting, even though I know it probably wouldn't be productive in practice.

Too bad it'll be a long while 'til PvP comes to fruition in EQ2, if it does at all.
