FIGHT FOR PVP!!Follow

#1 Dec 18 2004 at 10:02 AM Rating: Sub-Default
No pvp.. and no future plans for it!? With a great game like this, there HAS TO BE!! So... I am starting a revolutionary war on Sony until we get PvP. Fight for your rights!

afraid you might have a tough one on this...

a pretty large sum of the EQ2 player base right now don't want PVP.. (myself being one of them) It has it's pro's and con's but on the whole PVP has a tendency to bring out a rather.... dislikeable.. side of human nature.

sooo I suppose if you're wanting PVP you may want to pop WoW into the old harddrive.. it's certainly not nearly as pretty as EQ2 IMO, but if you want PVP it's in there.

What would be wrong with PvP? If it was a both-sides-accept deal where you could prove you're better. I'm sure you're thinking of pvp being like this:

halfling: hey man back off thats my woman
troll: shut up u migget
halfling: what are you gonna do if i don't?
troll: stomp you into oblivion
halfing: BRING IT!!!
troll: stupid migget
-halfling cuts troll's knee and he falls to the ground-
halfling: PWNED!!

true true... unchecked PVP is horrible...

a duel system would be fine though.. things I have noticed in EQ2:

1st when you mouse over another player you get a color /con for them..

2nd freeport and Quenos both have arenas that are currently "closed by order" of the respective city leader..

speculate at your leisure about it.. my guess is the groundwork for DPVP (duel PVP) is there and they're waiting til other issues get resolved before implementing it. How long that will take... no one knows and it could be a LONG time...

not something I'll take part in.. but it's fine for those who wish to should it ever come to pass.

When in reality it's like this.

halfling: good day
troll: hello
halfling: would you care to duel?
troll: why, of course
halfling: shall we start?
troll: after you
-halfling stabs the troll groin-
troll: good game, old boy
halfling good day to you
-handshakes-

Duel PvP would be perfect. That would keep everyone happy.. I hope they allow it.. and maybe even like a nation-on-nation event like FFXI's ballista.

Pvp pretty much is not goign to happen. Not saying it won't, but it would be an incredibly low priority on thier list. When Sony says they no plans, that means they have no plans. No one their has thought of system, its mechanics, the code, the areas or any thing. They would have to get the game well established, highly bug free, and a few epaxsions down the road when they are running out of ideas. Translation: years away at best.

Edit: Should specify I meant like full Pvp. Duel Pvp would be easy for the little instanced areans. Even that would probably have a good 6 months before it floats up.

YEARS AWAY? Man.. I don't wann go to WoW... T_T waaaaaah!! And in a few years EQ2 will probably be old and they'll have a new EQ out, or a new FF MMORPG.
#9 Dec 18 2004 at 10:35 AM Rating: Default
T_T... WoW is too cartoony.. and there's no Dark Knight/Shadowknight type class.. and it sucks in every conceivable way when compared to EQ2..

Add me to the list of people who don't want PVP. Dueling and/or arenas is fine. But you won't find me there, heh.

It is sure nice to come into the game and not have to decline a duel requests before my char can recover from the lagg of loggin in.

If they wanted to implement PvP they (SOE) shold have geared the char design toward PvP and implemented it from get go. There are a lot of MMO's out there that are designed around PvP. Why ruin a great game for the sake of a few?

I agree with Invis. It is so far away from being importaint to them at this time that who knows, they may just never do it. I do think that pvp servers would be fun. I don't understand how people can say that they don't want that. They are not going to make your server pvp without telling you about it. Although it would be funny if they did.

I just think it would be fun since this game is obviously geared twards alignment. Just picture this:

A high elf and a wood elf are adventuring in Antonica killing gnolls and enjoying each others company. An ogre comes running over the hilltop and stops to stare at each of them. The highelf says, "Perhaps he ran here from the commonlands and would like to join us." To which the wood elf replies, "We do need a tank and we would have much less downtime." The ground shakes and trembles as an army of ogres marches up to meet their companion. A band of dark elf mages apppear out of the shadows and the beady eyes of Ratonga scouts appear in the water and begin to surface. The high elf looks at his companion, "****!"

Now that would be fun. But like I said that is the least of their concern at the moment.

One of the things I expect to be implemented by February. Othewise my future in EQ2 has its days numbered.
#14 Dec 18 2004 at 11:10 AM Rating: Default
That whole army thing would be pretty wicked.. they should have like a special zone where you could host like 20 people against 20 others in an all out kill-fest!
#15 Dec 18 2004 at 11:13 AM Rating: Decent
see, when people say they want duels, they want duels and PVPs in EQ2 not wow or any other games, so i would say yes i really want pvp or duels in the game and i hope that they implement it asap, its just good for both people the once that with and without the dueling system.
simple if you dont wana duel then dont .. other wise just kill him on the spot !

/vote for !

No offense to anyone, but from my own experience it seems as though the younger generation wants the PvP moreso than the older. Kids who use games to work off the frustration that comes from their teen angst, I guess.

I've never liked PvP. In any game (unless that is the entire basis of the game). I personally enjoy immersing myself into the stories...and am yet to see PvPish stories.

PvP to me is nothing but an ego boost for those who play these games in order to be "UBER!"

Sorry if I seem a bit opinionated.

That said, I'm going back to solitare since nobody will play Disney Trivial Pursuit!!

no one is offended, but i think what you said wasnt right, there are lots of old people like duels, it just adds the fun and makes it double.

your right about some people like duels and are the younger generation, but still i find it more fun with duels.

everyone has his personal view anyways

The majority of people playing EQ2 do not want PvP. I know I do not want it, or if they do institute it restrict it to a PvP only server.

In my EQ1 career I found that the rabid PvP'ers were by and large immature, greedy, selfish little brats who delighted in ruining other peoples encounters and also tended to be some of the worst players around. They also tend to be quitters when things are not easy for them-in my guild we noted that all of the big PvP fans quit playing EQ after we quit raiding Time because GoD and OoW raids were hard. Since then if someone is know to be a big PvP'er they tend to be blackballed. We don't want to waste the time with them just to have them up and quit when things aren't easy.

If it is that important to you to play PvP then WoW is your game.

I thikn one of the great fears with Pvp on EQ2 is the repetition of the past with EQ1. There, when an object is looted off of a player, it ends up on Yantis' sale list or Ebay. I'll persoanlly quit eq2 altogether if they open the door for that ******* again. SOE has had TOO MANY problems stabilizing their economies because of the actions of a few parasitical scum. Not going to deal with it again. If they make a NO LOOT procedure for PvP, well that's a different story, and would be just fine with me.

edited cause I cant spell

No worries, you certainly have the right to your opinion. I actually like pvp and pve. I have to have them totally seperate. My main is always pve. This is where I try to get in a good guild and try to do all the quests and see the end game. Pvp is if I'm bored with that and don't feel like logging on to go grind for the night or raid something for the 100th time to get people back flagged. I can go have fun and RP on a fast paced always on your toes server.

Usually my pvp toon is far from uber. Actually he will have some good gear but good enough that someone will take it from me. The pve toon is what I try to get all the good gear on because I know it's safe.

That is true.. I AM in the pre-20-year-old bracket.. which makes me wonder.. how many other minors talk in these forums?

I'll tell you whats wrong with PvP in a MMORPG. In short, Player auctions. If i want to beat you all i have to do is have better kit than you and thats as hard as typing a credit card number into your PC. Then lets add in stuff like the person attacking you can be 6 levels higher than you, which was the case on EQ1 PvP when i tried it. OR the Lineage2 model when someone runs up and hits you for no reason so that their friends can appear from nowhere and jump all over you. You cant even get proper PvP in a game like planetside because one weapon is better than the next. The balence issues are just too hard to iron out. On top of all that, PvP is just about people that want to grief others plain and simple. Give PvP'ers an arena if you like and let them all show off their newly purchased kit or pack em all off back to battlenet to try out the latest hack.

nuff said.

And, yes, I strive to be "UBER!"
#26 Dec 18 2004 at 11:45 AM Rating: Default
Field PvP should be allowed! As long as both parties accept. And if someone stalked you, keep sending you invite to fight, and you said no, and they keep it up anyway.. They'd get like a 3 day suspension, next time a 5, then a week, then two weeks, then a month, and then another month if necessary.

Edited for spelling.
