Starting at level 18 you can do the Monk Subclass quest.

You get Mend at 20 after you ding and pass the quest.

Hold up a bit, before you go any further.

Alot of Eq1 monks have made a big mistake, in thinking they are a DPS class. While brawlers do alot of damage, your main role is that of a tank.

The style and flavor of the monk is essenitally the same, you get FD and mend and kicks and such. But you're main role will be that of a tank.

There are already too many EQ1 monks out there that don't do as much damage as a scout or a mage, and refuse to tank or just outright suck at it.

If you wish to go monk, and join the ranks of the REAL tanks, thats fine. But keep in mind from the start that being a tank is your main role.

If you're looking just for the style of the monk, you'll do just fine as a stylish tank. But if you're looking to do mad DPS and never tank, i'd reroll as a scout while you still can.

Bruisers are fun to play, although many people do not believe they can tank. While it is true that we cannot tank as well as guardians, it seems the latest patch fixed the deflection issue. Just make sure to keep the mobs in front of you, or you will be toast.

We do not have the dps that scouts and nukers possess, its true. But we do have decent dps, and we can tank, provided a healer pays attn to you. In groups, as a backup tank, my job is to keep the casters alive when we get Adds, or when nukers get a bit too hasty.

I imagine we will develop more defined roles as the game matures, using Feign to share the load, or to fd pull, etc.

I also have fun in smaller groups when the Jeer ability can be useful, provided you have ranged weapons.
