#1 Dec 17 2004 at 4:18 PM Rating: Decent
I had my first character named Thebaron , right. I play a little with him then I create a new one. the next time I log in TheBaron changed name to Apopo!! WTH?? I mean I wouldn't mind my character changing name like that on me , but Apopo!?? whats going on?

Well Thebaron was a pretty bad call. Considering Baron may be a future title that gets bestowed on a player. Hate to say it, but ya shoulda known better.

Dude, the naming policy clearly says that you can't have titles in your name like the, king, sir, etc.

People will say in response to this: "my name is Sir___ and they haven't messed with my name yet."

If you want to make a name that goes against the naming policy that's fine, but don't be suprised if someone scratches it.

naming policy? all I knew is that I couldn't put any sexual stuff in there. oh well doesn't matter

Check your messages for your Sony account. Normaly when they change a name, they give you a warning and set to a temporary one.. And you can then petition to have it changes to something appropriate of your choice, normaly you have a week or so to do that.

hah! Saw a guy outside freeport a couple nights ago named Thundercock! I asked how he got that thru the filter and all he said he was trying to get the name changed. I said good luck with that and he said he hopes he doesn't get banned for it, heh. Really makes me wonder what was goin thru his head.. and uhh.. just don't play that toon if yer worried about getting in trouble for the name.

Best one I've seen yet!

I constantly get grief about my trolls name. People are continually sending me private tells telling me that they are going to petition my trolls name; and that I should not be allowed to name him that; and that I should be banned for naming him that; and HOW DARE I think that I should be able to get away with naming him that; and blah blah blipitty blah...

I have never, in all my many years of gaming had to actually /ignore people as much as I have had to since my troll betrayed Freeport and moved into the Willow Wood.

Fortunately, my trolls name does NOT violate the naming policy. Nor is its intention to upset anyone or offend in anyway.

My troll simply cannot help it if his brood are trolls. Trolls are admittedly of limited imagination and somewhat less than average intelligence.

So, in closing I ask that you not pick on my troll just because he is named 'Troll'. Just be happy that he doesn't sneak into your hovel and eat your young.

I like Troll the Troll. It fits. And I'm shocked that players would freak at that. They're silly and just don't get it. Fight the good fight.

Other names I've seen, however ... well, we are just a bunch of glorified monkeys after all, I guess.

Hey! How did you know Troll was a Monk?

Well, I don't know about eating my young, Troll, but you're welcome to all of the fruitcake...

I think it's cute! Helps develop his character in a way. I've seen a lot of really awful names on EQ, but I don't think that's one of them.

Troll the troll. GENIUS
I bet people are just jealous of your originality and wished they hadn't named their characters SpamMonkey or something!
If they give you grief just poke them in the eye with a fat finger!

Yea I had this happen once on Eq1, but luckily I was on-line and the GM let me decide on the name. Was really kinda silly but the GM had a point. The name was a Iksar Monk named Shytor (prounouced Shy-Tore). HE said it sounded like the dirty name for **** and made me change it. Think I ended up changeing it to shylar (which is what I wanted to start with, but the server rejected it lol).

They changed your name to Apopo?

Here's how you get rid of that:

Do a /petition and become howling mad. Say there are some German speakers on your server and that they are ridiculing you mercilessly because "popo" in German is kiddie slang for "butt" - this is true, btw. Well it's either butt or the ****** - can't remember which. But it's not good. So w/ the name "A popo" you are literally "A BUTT". Or "a bottom". They should give you another chance to get a new name because of that. If not, sue them for civil rights whatever.

WTG SoE!!! I expect to have my char's name changed to "Elcaca" or "Lemerde" any moment now (ducks for cover)! Smiley: lol
