Don't worry about them rolling back stuff to far. I think Wal-Wart would sue if they took the roll back thing any farther.

When I logged out, I was level 20. When I logged in I was 7 ... years old.

First off you better watch your shaking fist ('damn those fist shaking laws' Homer Simpson) lol no jk bud. Yes I was quiet upset about the long time but i figured with the time and since im only level 6 i can decide a new path and all that fun stuff. Well just about 30 minuets ago i checked online to my charas and im now level 4 boy i wasnt mad but when i checked my dads charas i thought WOA! man i hope that was the level after the patch yesterday. cuz damn if thats wht the rollback did than wow im glad im back to 4 and not going from 20 to 4 lol. well enough nonsense. no eqii for me this weekend. :( oh well i think the game might be here when i get back on monday. THat is if no one or groups of people or the whole community decides to riot in the game and cause the whole game to collapse within itself taking them months to repair the game. AHH

And yes I do have too much free time on my hands so :-P.

Lol well enough taking about nothing everyone enjoy your time waiting for the servers to get back online. BYE BYE.

Oh yeah and there is also a game i read about Anarchy Online. PLayed it too for a month (free :-D) but i hear now that it is completely free just takes like 3 hours to dl completely. oh well its really like EQ 1 but more into the future. Well bye bye now.

Hey hey Bwarey! Bigndumb here (Reltok on Lava server). Great post!! Laughed my *** off! What bothers me most, is SOE's apparent opinion that we are too dumb to be given any info on what happened. Telling us there's a problem (Doh!) and no ETA is a tad too vague for my tastes.

How does one make a character on the test server? Does it take one of your four char slots?
#283 Dec 18 2004 at 11:22 AM Rating: Decent
You have 4 seperate character slots on test, in addition to the the 4 on normal servers.

I think the rollback is going to MUCH further than they say... I bought alot of new armor the day before the update, and I equipped it before I logged off. When I look at my toon in the selection area, i am wearing all of my old armor and have lost a level... If they are having this much trouble, they may have to do a complete reset... though I hope not for their sake and the sake of everyone who has gotten to a significant level.
#285 Dec 18 2004 at 11:23 AM Rating: Decent
OK but how do I get to this test server option?
#286 Dec 18 2004 at 11:23 AM Rating: Decent
Ok..Im a little late with my update, heres the 411: For those that skipped the previous pages, I have a contact within Sony..hes Earl the janitor. Please refer back to my previuous postings for more info on Earl:

Remember, this is in all confidentiality, anything that is said here is and will be denied by me..the insider. My goal is to provide those dedicated subscribers the information that Sony has neglected to provide to us:

The accidental pulling of the plug has induced a catastophic cascade of server shutdowns..the outcome is unclear, and as just getting off the cellphone with the Earlmeister (whos risking his job to bring us this information btw) He had been listening in on a meeting with the bigwigs at Fony..err Sony. They were gearing up to provide all of us hardcore and dedicated subscribers a free cupon for the 'new'! slimmer more compact version of the PS2..and one free game of our choice! Then Earl again mumbled something about sales that were dying because of microsoft or something...the last words from Earl I heard before I lost contact was 'conspiracy'....and then static.

Please keep your thoughts with Earl in this tragic time, hes doing his best to keep us all updated on the problems at hand.Ill post again in one hour. :)

Oh..Jakstrw? Earl risked it, Puddlejumpers a go when the servers come back up :)

Dont have a fit people as a Netadmin my self I can tell you why your toons are lower and not in same locs. They have to first restore a Full backup that was done maybe weekly then come back and do the incremental backups done daily to bring the system as close to 7am as possable. The hardest part of this was not our char data but the servers data. The patch they added needed to be taken off. I would guess that it did not go well and they need to completely reload the servers and reapply all the patches done to date. I would also like to say that in less there server farm was burned to the ground they should not have taken more then 6 hours to complete this. And shame on them for not giving us more info as to what they are doing to fix the issue.

So they've completely cut off communication with us...

I'm seriously beginning to wonder if they didn't spend all night last night trying to fix the 'problem' and now they've come to the conclusion that everything is ****** and they can't fix it...

As in complete wipe...as in a clean slate won't be up for another month...

So they're like f' it, lets shut the forums down and get drunk...

In my opinion Sony Online Entertainment is not handling this situation well in the least bit. They were unable/unwilling to communicate any details (unless you count: "we have no ETA", which I do not) to their customers. If they had stated what the problem was along with a ballpark figure of when the servers might be playable again, I think it would have gone a lot better. Furthermore, with the official forums going down, the situation has worsened. What are they thinking?

Wow, they screwed the pooch. As I work in support, I do feel awfully sorry for them, lots of lost sleep (and perhaps lost jobs) over this.

In the meantime, I've discovered that, not only is it almost Christmas, but I actually have 2 CHILDREN!! hmmm, I must have had a wife at one point

I seriously doubt they took the forums down on purpose. I don't think the software/servers they operate on where designed for the kind of load that hundreds of thousands of angry customers on a Saturday morning would generate.

edit:

I just tried hitting refresh a few times and it finally connected. the forums aren't down, they're just extremely overloaded.

Well I really must say, I am not impressed with SOE at all, the first day I bring this game home this happens.

I don't know if this is just a coincedence of if SOE is a horrible company.

You know what they say, first impressions say everything, my first impression with SOE has been plopping the game into the computer, installing everything, wanting to play the game and finding out its down... for a long time.

I suppose I'll give SOE a second chance, but they've completely turned me off by doing this.

We will be opening up Guk shortly to a limited audience. When we have enough characters in the world, we will lock the server and monitor it to make sure all is well. Thanks again for being so patient as we work to get all of the servers back up and running.
