I am a lvl 18 qeynos crusader intending to go the paladin route (only choice available now as I am past betrayal at 17).

I picked up the Path of the Paladin quest in North Quynos and did the first bit almost by accident (it was to kill 25 gnolls that were causing a problem - I killed a few easy ones in Antonica - and some timberclaws for the Dancer (NPC) part III quest - but these didn't count - then I grouped in Blackburrow for about half a level and found that in killing blue ^^ gnolls to me at 18 in BB I met the requirement and had cleared the 25 - and then some !)

I am now almost 19 and I have tried the second part of the quest three times - it is an apparently solo special instance to rescue some citiznes from gnolls - I am completely outclassed - there are several groups of agressive 'orange' gnolls and I haven't been able to even begin to do damage to the first one before I am dead.

Has anybody done this and if so can they give me a suggestion - clearly I will wait until 19 to to see if I get an extra ability - and I will upgrade a bit of equipment - but its mostly yellow with a bit of blue so not too bad.

Or does anybody know if you can bring a group with you on these class instanced quests.

I should add I am using 2 handed crush or slash for damage - which is generally better for solo (i think) - would I be better with a good 1h and a good shield instead.

Thanks,

I completed at 18 on the first attempt . . via the cunning technique of being scare to death! Basically as I recall I killed the first 2 gnolls then 2 after that - all blue to me. From there on I ran up the path to the clearing. Stop there and watch the movements of the gnoll gangs . . wait for right moment then leg it carefully round to the right. You'll see a fence and the prisoners behind it. Approach with care and right click on fence - it gives an option to kick it down or gently open it. I chose to open gently and it did on second attempt. Prisoners are free'd and then I legged it back to meet up with the dorf who zoned me out.
In other words the trick appears (to me) to be NOT fighting all the gnolls in there but using brain power - a refreshing change really.
Hope this works for you!
PS - you get the horse from a geezer in North Qeynos called Trainer Mcbeesle or similar stood under a tree in NW corner of the zone.
Good luck to ya

If you cast a beneficial spell (like a heal) on an enemy it will hit whoever the enemy is targeted on.

Enemies do a lot of damage in the first few seconds of a fight then slow down (because they all use mike special attacks).

So ward yourself, then start beating on a gnoll, and then do an HO. Then pretty much just cycle between the two, Ward, HO, Ward, HO, etc.... You never have to retarget because you are solo, and as you kill each one their damage output gets cut more and more.

Also make sure you have at least a white weapon and that your armor is all atleast green or better. Keeping your equipment up to date will make a big difference.

From what I understand, you don't actually have to fight those gnolls in the instanced zone. You just need to save the poeople inside. (Unless I'm thinking of something else.)

How dumb - I somehow imagined it was like Firemyst Gully where you have to defeat all the mobs - I never considered trying to get the people out by stealth.

I am pretty happy with my solo fighting technique - I pretty much string HOs in sequence and use the gaps while the HO starter is refreshing to chuck in what ever else is appropriate - depending on whether it is a solo mob or a multiple etc.

I don't believe that anything I am wearing or using is as low as green it's pretty much blue/yellow with an orange or two - I 've even got a couple in the bank which are red now but will be wearable at 19 or 20.

Thanks for the help - I'll try it later and see how I get on - and the horse location is great - I wasn't sure where to get it (but I am looking forward to it).

Yeah, just did it this morning (and now have to repeat due to the rollback - damn it). Kill the first several gnolls you meet and stay away from the high levels. Keep clicking the gate in front of the prisoners until it opens. Run back, done.

P.S. You can walk around the fence and talk to the prisoners, and walk right back out. Do the prisoners not notice this??? How dumb are the prisoners???
