Couple of Monk questions.Follow

Being from Freeport I only see bruisers, and I know monk is a bit different. I'm doing betrayal - or hope to- soon, with my brawler.

1) can monks wear shoes? Gah, I hate the bare-foot look. I know they are restricted to light armor, which doesn't bother me...but sandles at least?

2) Can I still use a Bo as a monk? Please tell me yes, lol. I get bored watching myself fight when I all I do is punch a mob, I did that long enough in FFXI when I played monk.

Thanks!

To answer both questions:
Yes. And Yes.

My main is a monk. I actually like the look of no shoes, but to each his/her own. Monks can use blunt weapons and fist stuff like wraps and knuckles obviously.

Welcome to the Monk community, brother.

By the way...

Your choice to betray the foul city of Freeport is indeed a good one. Join us. :)

You could help me out then Iven by telling me what the Bruisers you have seen look like =D I only see Monks in Qeynos, and they always wear green and yellow loose clothing. Also, does anyone know why monks fist wraps and knuckle weapons, are horrible damage compared to things like staffs and 2 handed hammer type weapons? I mean come on, I want to punch and kick stuff, with the occasional use of a BO, not pound stuff with a giant hammer =/ lol.

Thanks for the replies!! Luckily, I have the good fortunate to be coming in a 3 man Iksar static RP group, ...A Shammy, myself, and a crusader. I have to say the three of us are a great team, we were taking on pairs of ^ yellow orc pawns and ^^ white single mobs with only the three of us, at lvl 12.

We look forward to the journey away from Freeport - in an RP sense -

Thanks for the answers. Being that I will not be main tank in this group, -that will be our crusader/Paladin- I'm going to mess around with different weapons to see which I can optimize for best damage output. So far I like my bo quite a bit :) and...I look really stylish using it @_@

Outlaw, to answer your question Bruisers w/ their Armor quests done wear bluish loose pants, no shirt but a chest strap, and typically use just their knucks (as we called them in FFXI) meaning their fist weapons. They are high output DD's that rank up there with Brigand and Assassin.

Hehe, I just betrayed a couple days age and just finished up hunting all the gnolls I needed yesterday. Now I need to answer the dreaded questions. I hope the answers are as obvious as everyone says they are lol.

Iksar monks just rule. Its to bad we wont have a special tail whip skill going for us. :(

Kerra Monks rule! Cats are more meditative than lizards.
#8 Dec 17 2004 at 6:56 PM Rating: Decent
Cats don't live near as long as lizards and as such lose out on the wisdom gained with age. A wise monk is a healthy monk. Plus we got scales and take a bigger beating. :p

But waht happens when it gets cold?? Lots of wisdom can't help you when your metabolism seizes up.... Plus, Kerra females are wayyyy hotter....
#10 Dec 17 2004 at 7:07 PM Rating: Decent
Becoming a monk takes patience and meditation. We won't feel the cold anymore than you cats will feel the heat. I actually think both you cats and us iksar will make far superior monks to any other race. I'd say we were tied for coolness, but hey thats just what I think. /grin

PS No way, female iksar have a very sleek beauty that kerran women will never have. (I just love those crests) But than I'm hanging out with Dark Elf woman far more than others. A couple wood elfs here and there.

I completely agree! I am looking forward to seeing an Iskar Monk one dday, when one ventures Qeynosward on Faydark...

And if one comes, I can only hope they bring a lady Dark Elf or two... for much needed visual diversion...

Iksar females are creatures to keep your respect around. At all times. The crusader in my small brood (our static) is a female, and I do not cross her scales.

What better race to perfect a sort of cold inner tranquility than an Iksar? To balance the pure savage nature of their being with the strict code martial arts requires would make a very deadly fighter indeed. The cold doesn't bother me. I live in Freeport, and it's always cold there. You learn to adapt, or you die.

BTW - from an RP sense ;) Izzy's (blame that on the female Iksar, she calls him Izzy all the time, lol Izavahss is his full name) going to have to learn some inner tranquility because he's a little stand-offish, coming from Freeport where if you have scales, you are treated worse than trolls. Seriously. He's young and a bit hot tempered, but of course through-out his journey he'll have to learn to overcome that.

I'm sorry we'll never meet as I'm on Antonia Bayle, but I did bring one DE lady with me, and found another one already in antonica waiting just to group with me. Its fate I tell ya.

My rogue Kaitar has a strange infatuation for the "squishy" things that elven ladies have growing on their chests. It's sick, I know (lol I'm a girl irl btw, so I can make a perverted Iksar if I want hehe) but it's very comical.

The weirdest part is <_<;;; I get a lot of dark elf ladies that think his tail is really....really cute. It's kind of scary, in a way.

Umm Ivven, I do believe it is quite warm in Freeport with an occaisional cool breeze from the see. (commonlands--->Huge #$@ Desert) ;)

Not trying to flame you or anything just wanted to mention that little fact. /grin

Perhaps he meant symbolically and not literally ;)

And yes, the air is warm.

But it rains all the time. Things get damp and chill even in a warm climate after constant rain the CL has.

Tsk tsk, a female playing a male playing with our female DE's. I feel like we're gona lose this battle. Of course than again her character has a strange infatuation with the soft globs that sprout on the other huminoid races. We may yet be safe.

My Monk Jenku is a Barbarian.

Believe it or not, we Barbarians can actually be quite at peace within ourselves, as well as have a sense of honor, respect, and control.

All traits of a good Monk.

Oi I don't have anything against other monks. I just think monks with tails are superior. I'm also one of those types that thinks your basic human-type toon is sorta dull and boring (all the good alighned and neutral toons except kerrans and gnomes). I wish the humans had some sorta individualization item like piercings or tatoos or even some nice haircuts. /shake SOE
