What is a Rangers part in the party I only ask because Assasins have the high damgage
Mostly as a scout but not to many players play the game as designed IMO.
The Rangers main role is DPS. Assassins may have higher single hits, due to some of their abilities, but the real high ones they have are on a long timer, therefore only used once every few fights.
The Ranger abilities, while being less damaging per hit, are able to be used more often, and will at least equal the assassin per single fight, and then surpassing the Assassin over the course of several fights.
You will also be called on to Start HO's a lot, since most of the scout HO's are the best from a group standpoint. However, thats not just Ranger, thats any of the Scout subclass's.
Coming from the predator line, thats what both the Ranger, and Assassin do... Kill, therefore damage their opponents.

I agree with Wrake, DPS! I have registered hits as high as 255 to date with Shadow Blade (avg 150-180 range) and 50-60 with other special attacks, duel weilding with no specials register 8-12 range in rapid sucsesion. I have also stood back and used just the bow with 130ish specials and 30-50 on on regular shots althought the delay on the bow shots can be anywhere between 4-7 times longer than duel weild strikes. So aside from usualy being the an "assistant" to the main tank due to having to be behind or flanking the target I still rank up there in DPS area.
As HO's go IMHO Rangers/Assassins should be the primary ones to start them "most" of the time, Rangers (not sure about Assassins) also have the ability to change the selected spell HO's have in que, but still toying with this ability in game :)
As you Lvl in game as a Ranger your archery skills will become more powerfull and deal out larger amounts of damage too and will eventuly become your primary damage weapon. Along with your group speed buffs and unique "Cloaking" skills you will become a desired member for any smart group who nows how to use Tatics over brute force. An advantage that will give groups an awesome first strike capability and standoff DPS dealer.

D'oh that was what I ment to say. LOL
Oh yes, Also note that the scout class is the the ONLY class that can advance the HO wheel to change it.
