I harvested in Oakmyst Forest last night raising my skills to 32 and ended up with 8 rares. 6 pelts and 2 yarrow. Still not sure what to do with them since no one seems to buy them. lol

Rares are easy to find in the T1 to T3 zones, if I take my main to CL I can get several rares in no time. But in a T6 zone it seems to me that the chances are slimmer. I have only found 1 T6 rare. So who knows what the deal is.

Maybe its 1 and 200 harvests in CL and 1 and 5000 harvests in SS?

Only SoE knows.

Something like that. The devs said they are much more common at lower levels, and get rarer as you go up. They also said that with the recent patch your chance of finding one went up at all levels. With T5 it seems to me like it went from like 1 in 10000 to 2 in 10000... it's really not noticable.

Well...I took about a 6 month break from EQ2. Prior to leaving I'd gotten my harvesting skills to just under T4 lvls. Id gotten a couple blackened irons..2 or 3 coral...a couple silver clusters...some fir. Not alot, given the amount of harvesting I was doing then. This was all pre- the time developers said they raised the chances. I've recently come back and worked to get my frog troubador up to max for his lvl...he is currently at T4 skill lvl..roughly sitting at 145 in all aspects. I've not foraged consistantly, just enough to keep it maxed as I lvl, but I've gotten a couple rough jaspers...some medium quality pelts...a fish scale...and a couple severed oaks. So, while I havent noticed a big change in the number of rares I got from when I left a while back...it's probably worth mentioning that I'm not foraging as "hard" as I did then. Sometimes I just quit pulling mobs or questing, and take an hour or two and run around foraging every node I come to, keeping my last bag open at the top of my screen so I can see when my bags are about to fill up. I'd say during these sessions I get at least one **ding** "You have found a rare" message.

Since we're talking about T1 rares, you should be able to craft them yourself. (Anyone can make anything up until lvl 10.) Just purchase the rare books and make some stuff for yourself or for sale. Finished goods are always more viable than raw materials.

I have heard people say that your chance to get a rare harvest such as cilver, coral, or copper increases once you get the tradeskill ised to harvest it over 100

Someone should start a book on all the rumors and urban legends in both EQ and EQ2 over the years...

Just for your information I have toons for each tradeskill. So I have teir 3,2,1 collecting as often as possible to level them up.Have found that the more i collect the more rares i get, some days i get a rare off each type one after another then others I can go several days with only one rare. I agree that it's ramdom but i feel that the more you do the better chance you have of getting a rare. Thats just from my experience.

Its a Random as it can get!!! I was in NeK on Sunday 22nd at about 9 am, harvested for about 2 hours and got zip in rares. Logged off and stayed off till about 6pm. Went back in harvesting, same zone same server and got 5 rares in less then 30 min. Go figure!

I have ten different characters at different level and I pickup almost everything I believe I have found most of the rares on tier 1 & 2 more then once. I had My 12 Level Priest in Oakmont Forest Today I found a few Bronze and some Alder.

I created a character on the isle yesterday and saw a rare spawn pepper plant pop up about 5 minutes later having not worked on gathering at all. My other character found copper in the sunken city at just over 20 mining.

I have to say that this has been my experience as well. I have gone down the path of harvesting only on ore so I could get Blacken Iron or Steel but the results have been very frustrating. As soon as I switched methods, ie harvested everything and anything, my rare harvests increased dramatically.

That said, I can harvest for an hour or longer before getting the first rare, and then BOOM 4 or 5 in minutes, not to mention the glowing and sparkling items. It alway seems to come in a little rush and it hasn't mattered what Teir I'm after (only 2,3,4 presently).

It seems strange that you should need to harvest everything to get rares, but it doesn't really bother me to spend the time. My group all does the same and then we pass the rares we can't use to those who can use them. If that fails we stick 'em on the broker and get a nice price.

Since GU 24 there is a skill-over-trivial point at which you have a slightly better chance of getting rares. We have not been told the formula, and no one has figured it out yet. But a maxed harvester working lower tier zones has a slightly better chance.

The chance of getting a rare is limited random. RAres become more rare as you level up - Tier 1 (level 1-9) they're not terribly hard to get, Tier 2 (level 10-19) they're a bit harder, by Tier 7 (level 60-69) they're pretty darn rare.

I have acquired the highest harvesting skills with the exception of fishing and I have no problems getting rares. Granted it is harder in the T7 zones but I always find at least one or two. I spend maybe about an hour a day harvesting in the different zones so that I can supply my crafters their materials. I do notice tho' that I get more of the flowers, stones, teeth and whatnot than I do the really good rares. In fact I was in the Commonlands the other day waiting for that heart game to start and collected 12 bones and 25 flowers/stones. I was only there for about 40 minutes. I think if you are running into a problem getting rares, move to a different location or zone. I have harvested in Lavastorm and Everfrost, it seems that Lavastorm offers me more rares.

Yeah, when the imbuing raws (stones, flowers, etc) were first put in they didn't give the "Rare item" alert and the old dev called them "Uncommons". They sure aren't rare, lol.

One way to increase your chances of finding a rare in any given hour is to increase the efficiency of your harvesting in general. If you harvest more nodes in an hour, you have a higher chance of getting a rare or two during that time. You can increase your efficiency in harvesting by getting a speed buff or fast horse, and by increasing your vision. There is a setting in the Options menu, I think it is called Rendering Distance which you can max to be able to see nodes, etc, that are farther away (at the expense of increasing lag, which may or may not be noticeable on any given computer). You can also adjust the darkness of your graphics via your monitor or the EQ2 Options menu (gamma setting) so you can see the nodes clearly even at night. Crafted harvesting tools also speed the process along.

But of course the fastest way to get a rare is still to raid the Guild Bank!

True rares are completely random. I've had weeks where I've gotten 3 or 4 rares. And, then gone a month without seeing another. However, last week, I picked up 4 rough opals in a row in the Enchanted Lands. One off each of the nodes I harvested consecutively. I was so excited, I gave 3 of them away to guild mates that needed them and only used one of them for crafting. XD
