512 vs 1 gig- How much difference?Follow

The only other suggestion I would have then is playing on a low load server. Then you won't have to deal with as much server side lag as on the "Heavy" and "Full" servers.

seriously you cant play with just 512mb even you have 2GB virtual memory. Im playing with 768mb(not recommond since the system isnt that stable). I have some acceptable lag but at least you can run smoothly when there are less than 20ppls in front of you.

so if you cant affort to buy another 512mb. try a 256mb. of course not as good as 1GB but at least less lag

I play with 512 mb and a 9200 card games plays great till I zone 6 or 7 times the memory leak in the game makes it so laggy I have to reboot and restart game then its great for 6 or 7 more zones. I myself am getting a new video card for sure, have to get my other machine up and running it also and video card in it will not even run eq2. So I may pick up another 512 of memeory for my machine also but I think its only going to work like a band-aid for eq2. It will still have the same meory leaks just will take a little longer to get the same lag is all but sooner or later you will have to reboot to get rid of the lag

By the gods!!
Ok props to all the people who gave me the nudge...there is a dramatic difference. Still a little in-town lag, but definately liveable....and best yet I can bump up the graphics.

Cheers!!

Hehe.. by the gods indeed. You'd think that since your doubling the ram it would only cut the lag by 50%... but it seems like 100% to me:)

On the computer I currently play EQ, it has 3gig P4, 1 gb ram and radeon 9600xt. The game runs marvelous. The only time I turned down graphics was during a 20+ person raid. I had to put it at the second to bottom settings to play with no lag. Also, I have played for over 17hours straight, left in vendor mode overnight, and started another 12+ hours straight after 6-7hours of sleep - never once rebooting. Im not sure how bad the memory leak is, but Im trying to put together a new budget system so I hope its not bad with lesser parts.

Just wanted to add to the general agreement. 1 gig made a huge difference for me.

I also have a question for people:
When I upgraded, I noticed a huge leap in performance, but was still not able to turn the graphics up to balanced. I have a 2.1GHz P4 with 1G RAM and an nVidia FX5500 128 card. I suspect it has to to with my settings or my virtual memory allocation. What should I have the swap be set at now that I have a gig of RAM?

1 gig of system ram will help a great deal, especially if you have many programs running in the background or you like to go from windowed mode to fulscreen much in the game. That being said, take a look at how much RAM is on your vid-card! EQ2's medium quality textures require 128 megs of video ram... the high need 256 and the very high demand 512! If your textures are set to a higher quality level than your card can hold in its own memory, your system ram will take up the slack. This will slow down your framerates considerably as your system ram is ALOT slower than that your vidcard.

Summed up: More RAM. Its a good thing. ;)
