What do you see yourself doing?

DPS (Damage Per second)
Tank
Healer
Magic User (all different rolls, primarily DPS though)

Once you choose that your answer is pretty straight forward.

Scout
Fighter
Priest
Mage

Once you hit level 10, you'll be expected to pick a sub class again. At this point, you'll do a quest that gives you a good idea of the way your class would progress if you choose each different path.

I'm not 100% sure exactly if you are asking what I think you are asking... but I'll take a shot at it.

If you are meaning, which class choices will I enjoy? That's a hard call. I will let you know that from what I am hearing, pets are not quite the tanks they were in EQL... in particular they don't taunt as much or as well. Generally all of the Archtypes (and coresponding classes/subclasses) have spells or spelllike abilities that they gain per level, with a broad range of things to do, so it's not like EQL in the sense that melees gain skills while casters gain spells and and hybrids get both. They progression FEELS similar with all characters, it's just a matter of what they can do and what tools are given to them. Based on my personal experience, you might find that you prefer a class in this "go-around" that you didn't in EQL. I did NOT enjoy melee in EQL and played primarally casters, however in EQ2 my main character is a Crusader and I prefer him over my "caster" characters. A good start would probably just be asking yourself what "image" you like. What character concept seems "cool" to you?

If you are asking for a literal description of the game mechanics involved in class choice... here goes...

You make class choices at three points during your character's life. The first one is shortly after starting the game. You begin your life in Norath as a "Commoner" and will begin on The Far Journey, a ship that picked you up in the Ocean. This you probably already know. After you reach the Isle of Refuge, you will be prompted by a guard there (his name escapes me at the moment) to tell him what Archtype you are. The choices are Fighter, Scout, Mage, or Priest. You will spend the first nine levels of your life as one of these.

After you have left the Isle, reached your choosen city, and adventured enough to gain level ten you will be prompted to visit an quest NPC that will set you on the path to choosing your class. The classes open to you at that point will depend on your Archtype. Fighters may become Warriors, Brawlers, or Crusaders. Scouts may become Rogues, Bards, or Predators. Mages may become Sorcerers, Enchanters, or Summoners. Lastly, Priests may become Clerics, Shamen, or Druids. You will spend the next ten levels as one of these.

Once you gain enough experience to obtain level twenty, you are directed to another quest NPC to begin your choice of subclass. As before, your options will depend on what class you was choosen at level ten as well as, in many cases, what city you are residing in.

OK, the quick answer is to play each type of toon through the IoR. (You start with 4 slots, then if you pay for the Station pass, or whatever it is called, you get 8) After you get to this point, you should have a pretty good idea of which class you enjoy most, and you have only spent a couple of hours on each class to decide.

By my personal experience, the Mage is a good route if you like to sit back and consistantly blast your enemies to ashes with powerful spells. Always the protaginist in damage dealing, you will always be sought after in a group, but if you like strategy and planning, then you can solo for experience in your own right.

My personal favorite thing about playing is the tradeskills. Gathering things and then making them from scratch always gets my attention. I constantly strive for Artistan/Scholar experience by creating items that I myself will use or that I can sell to others for a huge profit...

hey thank you for your help first off and secondly thank you for clearing up the class thingy. um i like pets healing and tanking (in some ways) like a beastlord. im now stuck between a shaman, mage, or a monk lol......um hmm...accutally yeah monk for the dps and some tanking abilities, mages for the good pets and soloing somewhat (minus the self healing spells) and shaman for awesom soloing but then again its either shaman or druid.......hmmmmmmm.....the only thing i dont like about druids is the whole when you solo you kite and i dont really like kiting.....but yeah.....hmm....yeah so im narrowed down to now Monk, Shaman (since they heal and have some weaker pets) or a Druid. whats your opinoin (maybe the posts will influence me someway) thank you in advanced
