I was wondering if EQ2 has alcohol effects like in EQ1. I have not seen them, but that does not mean they dont exist. If not, what is the alcohol tolerence skill for?

I certainly hope not. Since I'm going to introduce my kid to E2 next year, it's one of the facets of the game that may not send a family type message one might want conveyed, or at least need to explain. Once again, I'm sure I am way way in the minority on thos one.

It does. If you read the rating on the game it says:

Rated Teen:
Suggestive Themes
Use of Alcohol
Violence

Its right on the package before you buy it as a warning to parents. This is a Teen rated game, not for children.

If you want your child to play an MMO, join ToonTown. You defeat evil Cogs with gags... not by stabbing them in the back. Cogs don't like to have fun so when their Laugh Meter gets too high, they blow up because they are mean people. Which on one likes.

I do not think that this would be the best game to introduce to a member of the younger crowd. There are way worse things in it than alcohol use, namely the other players. Even with the profanity filter (which almost anyone can figure out how to unblock), there are many hateful, racist, sexist, and harrassing things people can say, to name a few. Also, even some of the things the NPCs say is not very child apporpriete, like the Kerran (or whatever the tiger race is) that is looking for a "Tom" in Freeport, that is saying they better show her some coin before she goes to the hills with them. After all that, alcohol use is something you are worried about? Please don't let kids under 13 play these games, please! It is not suitable for them, and even says so on the box.

I drank 24 bottles of brandy that I made myself and didn't feel a thing. =(

EDIT: All at once, of course. And Alchohol Tolerance didn't go up once. It's in the game so I would assume you are supposed to be able to get drunk. Maybe brandy isn't alchoholic though. :p

As far as I know, the drunk effects are not in the game yet. I'd assume they will be putting them there soon, though, since there is an alcohol tolerance skill.

It's a shame... I really wanted to spread booze out at our guild's Christmas party next week... oh well.
