I have my little summoner and though I'm enjoying the abilities of my scarab.. how does one get the spider? is that the App III version or is that the Adept 1 level spell?

The spider you most commonly see is the Adept 1 version of the spell. The Apprentice 3 version is still the scarab thingy.

Actually the Apprentice 2 is still the Scarab. Apprentice 3 and Adept 1 are the spider. You get a Fire pet when you hit 20. Good Luck

I have the apprentice 3 and it's still a scarab. Granted he's a pretty strong scarab and makes the app 1 look like a chump but a scarab nonetheless. I can't guarantee that adept 1 is the spider because I don't have it but the other summoners I've talked to have said it is.
IMO unless you have money to burn I would recommend purchasing the apprentice 3 rather than the adept. It's a little cheaper and he is pretty strong. I'm waiting till I become a necro to really worry about looking for the adept pets. These seem to be really rare items considering I haven't seen one drop nor have I been able to find a person selling one.

The Adept 1 is the Spider definitely and yes at level 10 it can fight stuff alone and win. The scarab usually ended up on it's back.
I do find the mob tends to get pushed into some very awkward places so it's almost worth me getting aggro just to make sure it dies where I can reach it.

hmm if I can find an Adept III for relative cheap I may pick it up.. so far it's been rather expensive for how much silver I have. (2/3rds my current silver supply which is 81sp).. with luck I'll be able to scribe it myself in the not too distant future (I hope)
