Is this a bug? Or my videocard is not good enough!?!?Follow

Hi All, I'm just wondering what are the video settings you guys have for EQ2. Here's the Specs for my PC.

Dell Dimension 4600, P4 2.8HT 800FSB
1GB PC3200 DDR
Geforce 6800GT 256MB AGP 8X
Video Driver side set for "2X Antialiasing, 4X Antisoxxxx"

I'm now using only "BALANCE"...... but when I go to the town like Qeynos Harbor I still lag.... I know EQ2 is design for top notch videocards... but what's the point of making it so high if we can't seems to benefits from it?? My Geforce 6800GT is not top notch videocard... butI just can't accept the fact that a $400 card can't even display this game at a acceptible speed and quality.

Comparing with HalfLife 2 and Doom3... I'm able to use ALL MAX setting and the game look awesome. But why not with EQ?? Do they really expect everyone who brought this game will have DUAL GeForce 6800Ultra and running SLI!??!?

try setting it to high quality over balanced, or higher high quality, I forget what they call it here... I first made a char in FP and ran fine, then made one in qeynos with same settings and lagged like hell, changed settings and now it works fine, you may also want to lower your rendering distance, you shouldnt need to, but if the problem is still noticeable then try that.

your videocard is top of the line :P

If it is lagging, it isn't necessarily your video card. I could be the server or your internet connection. Try going on during a non-peak time (like 3 am) just to see if you lag. I bet you won't. I run it with a Radeon 125mb card and hardly ever lag.

Also, it could be any number of optimization problems...

1) Need updated drivers for Video, Sound, or Motherboard Chipset?
2) Spyware?
3) Connection?
4) To many programs / services running?

I'm using a lowly FX5200 and I can run balanced without it being a TOTAL slideshow... admittedly I run on High Performance though.. :)

YEah I forgot spyware. Download Spybot and run it every week or so, depending on how frequently you surf the net. Also, what type of internet connection and isp do you have?

My PC just rebuilt 2 days ago and I made sure I put on Norton and Adaware first before I install any other softwares, all the drivers were newly downloaded from the manufacturer's web site. PC is clean. I'm on 3.0MB Veriaon DSL... The only thing now I can think of is maybe the video driver??? My card is the Leadtek A400, but I'm using the latest driver from NVidia... not sure if that matters.

Nvidia cards do not work well with this game at all. Here is a link explaining the whole problem:

I don't know why this happens or if SOE has plans to fix it. Might want to pick up an ATI card if you have the spare change.

Hi, I have almost the same setup as you and I have litte to no problems. I stay on balanced but every once in a while I will tune it down a notch. To me gameplay > graphics. When I am in Freeport or in a crowded zone it just plays better tuned down one notch from balanced.

Spybot, Adware, Virus scans, Windows updates and video card driver updates are not optional! It it sad that we need to keep up with all these things but hey what are you gonna do right? Also, after playing for 4 or 5 hours I do have to reboot my system. This game is freakin memory hog. If you have been playing a while and everything starts getting real choppy especaily during combat then you should probablly do the same.

What I'm worried about is when I get into raiding. I know it's only 25 people vs 70 but I was hopefull that my $400 video card would let me run a raid with spell effects on....guess I was wrong.

This really sux.... I spent more time tweaking and testing the graphics settings more than I actually play this game. Did anyone try "Guild War" yet? Maybe it's time to switch already. EQ2 really disappoint me now.

its weird recently in bigger zones i can have all the settings maxxed out (i manually max out every single bar) and it runs with practically no lag and then in citiy's i take it down to verry high quality (the 2nd best setting) and it runs no lag... 6800 ultra this is great... i take it down from maxxed out to extreme quality and i get absolutely no lag in big zones (antonica)

It is probably your internet connection or isp then. What do you have?

you mentioned you had Norton- do you have Norton running constantly its Script checking and virus scanning? if so, you may well need to turn this off.

Why? Because Norton, in its wisdom, scans every single script executed on your PC, and when running a game, this means every single part is scanned before Norton allows it to be executed; which causes lag-like issues in games; I had the same problem, but disabling Norton fixed the issue fine.

Incidentally, disabling Norton also fixed a lot of other, non-game related issues that were afflicting my computer as well.

hmmm, funny thing is, they claim that they designed the game for Nvidia vid cards... (Read your box, kiddies. Or even the opening credits...)

'Course, this would not be the FIRST time SOE lied to us...

Anyone know if the network bar exist in EQ2? You know bar that we used to have form EQ1 to show us how our connection to the serevr is? Sometimes it's just hard to tell if the server lagging... or our graphic card... or the HD... or all of them. does this bar exist?

This link is very helpful in telling you what graphic settings are in EQII and how much they can glut your system.
