I was just wondering if you guys have bought any of your gear from merchants? I have not as of yet and I actually think it would be cool to see if I can make it thru the game without buying any gear at all. The reason (obviously) is that the quested gear is pretty sweet. I see nice caster items for sale when I browse the market and it's easy enough to come here or to another website, find the item, find the quest and get it myself.

The thing that I buy is adepts. Actually I'm kinda **** about it. As soon as I get a new spell it must be adept1 at least. So I guess that's where I spend my money. I also helped out a buddy of mine who is a tank and was not tanking quite as well as he thought he should be. I suppose tanks having nicer gear to take the hits is just as importaint as the healer having and adept1 heal or me having and adept1 nuke. I gave him a few gold and told him to have fun since I have no clue what good player sold tank gear sells for or even looks like. Any tanks out there feel the need to upgrade pre-AQ?

Honestlyif you wanna do it you can do it -IT IS possible. In eq2 quest rewards are pretty sweet, looted items are also very good so I bet you could survive. The only hign I bought was set of pristine carbonite cvanguard but thats only becasue Iam too lazy to do my armor quests now ;-)

I've purchased or made some gear because sometimes there's a large gap between gear. For instance, my SK's lvl 10 class body armor tops out at lvl 16. You can't even wear your AQ body piece until lvl 24 (if I remember correctly). That's 8 levels w/o one of the most imporant pieces for a tank being up to date.

Also, sometimes the player made stuff can be better.

When I play my SK, it's obviously important to keep my AC up. When I play my shaman or predator, I feel it's equally important because I like to solo a lot and I don't like the idea of being spot on the floor when I draw aggro in a group.
