Another Racial Traits QuestionFollow

Does anyone know how the traits that say something like "adds special crush damage" work? I am wondering if they add only if you are using a weapon that crushes, or if it adds it no matter what? I am also wondering if it adds it to every attack, or only to a percentage of your attacks?
