Soloing in EQ2Follow

#27 Dec 13 2004 at 6:07 PM Rating: Decent
I like to say that I am a god at soloing. I am not as pleased with soloing in EQ2 as I was in EQ but I have learn to adept. I am a lvl 20 conjurer and can solo almost everything. I typically solo things that con orange and the occassional red, depending on how hard the red hits. With being a conjurer I always have my own tank and I can heal him. I can easily solo 2 yellows at a time without breaking a sweat. I can take on up to 4 greens at a time and if I can get them all to attack my pet I can do 5. green^^ are very easy to do and doesnt take long. I was soloing the rotstuffed crows in antonica and was getting 1% each battle. It took about 2 mins. to recover from each fight. HOs are very important to learn how to and when to use. The pets do not taunt so the first thing you do is send it in and let it hit for a little while, I usually let it get the mob to 10% before attacking. Petrify is great for soloing for single and multiple mobs. on single mobs it is nice because it stops the mob from attacking the pet and allows the pet to use its own power to heal itself. Own multiple mobs it is nice because you can petrify the mob that is attacking you and force your pet to attack it. If you get adds in the middle of the fight dont attack them. Petrify the mob and have your pet attack it. The best part of petrify is that it doesnt pull agro on to you like a root does. If you are fighting easy green mobs it is also nice to use petrify to allow your self to dot the mob with multiple dots and then root them. When your dot runs out redot and then root. It helps so that you take the minimal damage while your pet is attacking the other mob. I soloed most of my way to 20 because I got pissed off with groups because they didnt know what they were doing always and kept getting xp debt. If you are on the unrest server and want to know more about the summoner class and how to solo better let me kow and Ill take you out and show you some things. My character's name is Ayuha.

i ran a test.

at level 22, it took me 10 minutes to find a party, 20 mins to get the entire party in an area, and then we killed, and it was good exp.

got around 15% during the next hour

after the group broke up, i was at 90% and had 30 mins before i had to go to work. and well, we all know you just cant leave with only 10% left.

so i ran over to blue/white crabs and started hackin away at them.

i leveled with 4 minutes to spare.

so....i managed to get 10% in 30 mins which is just amazing solo. It wasnt even hard.

I'm thinking soloing might be really good, i'm going to give it some more experiments now that i'm 23.

Provisioners make the best soloers. ^_^

Great foods and drinks can dramatically reduce downtime.

I find soloing rather easy as a Cleric suprisingly enough. I get very good exp per kill on the solos and the group encounters are great exp. Haven't had any problems with yellow con solo mobs, and have been able to do group encounters up to 4 mobs even con. Still have too much trouble taking on the blue ^^ mobs. Those fights usually end up about a 50/50 chance of me surviving.

Oh yeah, soloing has been very profitable since all the drops are mine mine mine. Been able to upgrade quite a few spells to Adept I without ever spending a single cp.

My 17 Summoner has been soloing yellow mobs for the last few levels. With Adept I pet and the pet heal I can pretty much just stand back and let Jobober do all the work, throwing out the occasional nuke or DOT.

I only went solo until level 14. After that, a group killing gnolls outside of Blackburrow invited me in and I found that it went a lot faster, but I didn't get as much money/loot because of the lottery. It all depends on what you like: slow exp with lots of loot/money, or fast exp with low amounts of loot.

You can solo very well.
Up to lvl 20 you get xp faster then most pickup groups. Also its not much downtime soloing.

To solo efficiant: have good food and water to avoid any downtimes. Use HO's. Know your class power/weakness.

This post sums it up in a nutshell.

Soloing will rarely earn you the same XP/hour as if you were in a group. For those that forget EQ1 was the same way.

Right now everyone is learning the capabilities of their class, the mobs/areas that are good solo spots, etc..

My personal experience has been that I have no problem soloing yellows and, depending on the mob, orange cons. I also find that though XP is slower then being grouped you do not have to worry about that one dork in a group that gets you XP debt.

I actually find I get more exp soloing lower level mobs with the up-arrow (designated Group) than "standard" mobs that are yellow. No doubt at higher levels this will stop being viable but it works pretty well at 15.

I have found that soloing is very easy. I have been able to solo Yellow and orange mobs. Green++ or small group green+ are doable with some ease. No biggy if a mob runs me to low power, it only takes a minute or so to regain it all (conjurer using the essence shift spell). Even found that it is easy to keep agro on pet even when doing groups of mobs. Sick pet on first one, click on next mob, spam pet attack on it till its at about 90%, click next mob and do same, and so on. You will take dmg, but once you have the agro on pet it doesn't matter as long as you keep it there. Just continue to rotate the pet from mob to mob. Then do AE DOT's and AE nukes and watch them drop. If all else fails.... run like a chicken..... I enjoy killing the Green++ mobs since they give good xp and seem to drop more chest items (have gotten several Adepts this way and know one friend that got a master this way) Lately I have even been able to solo some of the quests in TS at lvl 20 (the hunter guys quests). Try different strats till you find one that works, Xp is slower, but I hate getting in a group and then everyone dies and splits leaving a nice present of debt. Enjoy =)

Going from 15 to 16 I was soloing green gnoll groups in Antonica.
Didn't take any damage from them, and whipped through them while reading a book.
Got alot of good drops too, I just gave em away though. I'm not a hoarder type person when I don't *need* something. I'd rather give it to someone who will use it that just sell it.

I still love my EQ1 druid though, soloing red mobs.
At level 36 he could take on the Corrupted Hill Giant in Rathe with not too much trouble.
Root, dot, dot, dot, dot, med, root, dot, dot, dot, dot, med, root breaks, FLEEEEEE, med.... root... FLEEEE, dot dot dot, med......
Rinse repeat.
Heh, the good old times...

I have only made 19 with my summoner but once I learned the tactics involved the only problem I have soloing is finding the right spot. I have the app 3 pet which made a huge difference in my ability as well. I pull with a nuke (dust blast) and then petrify the mob right before it gets into melee range. Send in the pet (fully buffed) and let him swing away until about 2 seconds after petrify wears off. Then I toss on 2 DoTs and start an HO. Finish the HO (normally with a nuke) and hang out till my pet finishes the mob off.

This usually leaves me down about 1.5 bubs of power and my pet is down about 1 bub of hp. By the time I run out and pull another mob were both pretty much full on everything. With this tactic I can solo orange cons with ease and maybe have to stop every 45 minutes or so because a fight didn't go exactly as planned or I got an add. Things are even better if I'm fighting a mob type that I have the master strike ability for. Currently those are orcs and skelletons.

I can sustain even longer solo series if I use my pet hp to my power spell (cant remember what it's called) and always keep a spirit essence handy to use. I only have a second tier food and drink bought from venders. In the perfect spots for this I have gained xp at about a 20% per hour rate which IMO is pretty good. I'm never really in danger of dying because I fight only what I know I can handle.

I am a level 17 Crusader (paladin). Soloing at this level has gotten very slow for XP. Up till about 15, soloing for me has been a fairly even process albeit going in a group was Hugely better for XP.

I can solo most things up thru orange IF I am careful and reserve enough mana to run . . . Critical thing to do is watch the enemies health bar to yours right from the get-go. If your health bar drops to yellow in the first few seconds of battle and the mobs bar stays green . . . RUN. You will not survive the encounter - same goes if you maintain even but mob's bar seems to not be moving down in ratio to your mana bar . . . it becomes a game of eyeballing mechanics.

You will get a feel for the ratio between dps an nuking and the necessity to run in the first couple seconds of fighting. If you do not acquire this feel then you will consistantly die - and I would not recommend soloing under any circumstances unless you stick to greens.

I have a bard 15, a brawler[futuremonk]14, a cleric 15, and have soloed all three for most part. Now here's the trick you do all quests all the time, and when you get to group portion or group mobs as long as the grouped mobs are 4 or less you can take them on group con green or grey.(works as long as no nasty casters a.k.a. serious dots will ***** you} Now make sure you figure out your HO's and when you fight orange and yellows dont blow them when 2nd portion is resisted or you are sunk. When whites blues greens are solo fights you will not have many part 2 resists which can break chain. Your quests will give you exp faster than trying solo hunting even if you go back and grab green and grey when completed. A couple of advantages to soloing your debt is yours alone not someone elses screwups and you keep all the drops. Now grouping has some advantages as well you do get faster exp and lotto higher level drops. I am soloing basically to learn classes better once i get to 20 and am forced to group ill be a better player.
