I have a druid half elf main and my husband has a main half elf swash buckler. Ive noticed he is always gaining on me in xp but never thought too much about it.

Well today we each started a new char; I started a woodelf bard and he sytarted a half elf crusader. Even doing the exact same quests and fights together I am now 1 lvl ahead of him. (im lvl 11 and he is 10).

Is it stated anywhere that if you pick the traditional class for your race your xp rises faster? In both cases, the char that was xping faster then the other had chosen the "traditional" class as opposed to something else.

Did one of you choose artisan and the other one adventurer when the banker asked you about your profession? I never gave it another thought until this post. Perhaps the old rumor about that question effecting xp gain rate is true.

I doubt they would change xp gain rate for certain race-class combinations. Even before release they were strongly pushing that any race could play any class and be successful. This doesn't sound like something they would do after that. I would think they would be more inclined to give odd combinations xp bonuses, like a dwarven mage. I actually have one of those, extra xp would be nice :P

None of our characters have chosen the artisan path. They are all adventurers and they all have done the same things together. Only differences is that the 2 chars that have leveled up faster were in the "traditional" roles. (shrug) Id love to find out if this is the case or something is messed up. It's very weird.

Perhaps the xp reward for the class quests were different. If you really want to know, try doing something like a dwarven mage and a gnome/high elf mage with the same class. Then there should be no other variable besides race and class combination.

I guess I didnt clarify enough.

Heres a good expl;

We went to Oakmyst today at level 9. I have a woodelf bard he has a half elf crusader. Fighting the same things together and not wandering off to kill solos, I dinged 11 while he was about to hit 10.

Same things, started at the same level. I just xped twice as fast on the same critters we killed together

Ahh, I read this:

to mean that you both created at the same time and did everything the same, the only difference then would have been the reward from your class-specific quests.

Since you started monitoring from L9, I'm assuming you had the class quests done? Because if not, that would still be a variable. That's the only thing I can think of...if it's not that I honestly have no idea. If you split up at any point while fighting, maybe one of you went out of xp range? If there even is an xp range in this game.

The only thing I could think of is to make two characters with different races, both with the same class. One would have the 'gifted' race and the other one would be the 'misfit' pretty much. Then see if you both get xp at the same rate since everything would be identical, including the class quest xp reward.

yes, there is a range for xp and quest drops. you must be within that range from the mob to gain either.

I've seen it happen too, actually. I've got a lvl 19 halfling druid, and the other day I was grouping with a few people in Firemyst. I had 10% to go before 20, and a lvl 19 human shaman had 17% to go till 20. We were in the same group, killed the same things, and he dinged 5 minutes before I did.

Ok we're going to do a test on this theory.

Just to reiterate, my husband is playing a half elf Crusader. I am playing a woodelf bard. His class is not the traditional role for his race, while mine is.

As of right now I am a full level ahead of my hubbys chars. I am going to let him catch up to me so we are perfectly equal in levels and % and then fight non stop together and neer leave ones side. I'll post the results.
