So many artisan qustionsFollow

#1 Dec 11 2004 at 10:26 PM Rating: Decent
I am close to having to decide which artisan class I want to be. I think I have narrowed it down to either Armorer or Alchemist. I have some questions about both.

As a Troll I know that I would get the opportunity to boost my armorer skills, so I would like to know how that works. Just exactly how much does it boost your skills? Does it boost quality, or add recipes, or both, or what? Also, can Armorers repair their own armor? Can armor that gives bonuses (i.e. +1 STR) be created? Can armor actually be created that is better than what you can find?

What are some of the better potions that alchemists can create? I am assuming healing and resistance boosting potions. Any other cool ones? I know as a Warrior, alchemist isn't the traditional choice, but being able to create my own healing potions sounds pretty cool.

I appreciate all the help. I am looking for the alchemist class that will be useful even when I get to high levels. I realize that no one is that high in the game yet, but I'm sure there are tons of people farther than me who can offer advice. Thanks a lot!

Search all over that site. Bad news. Potions are gimped and do almost nada, based on what I've read. Tier 2 potions all seem to have a 1.5 silver cost ingredient but do very, very little (and don't last long). Again based on what I've read. I haven't even made one yet.

I've made some poisons that don't work. Only one, caustic whatever, works. Only scout types can use it (it's a proc for them and lasts a very long time).

I went scholar to make app lvl 3 upgrades. So I don't have to pay gouge-lvl price for em. Hehe, app3 prices are finally coming down now...

Armor making at hte lower levels, from what I'm hearing, isn't panning out for any one because players can quest for much better armor than anyone can make - so why buy it?

Do a lot of google searching on artisaning - read up on it - don't assume anything. GL

I haven't been able to find any of these specific answers. I was hoping a higher level artisan could enlighten me.

To my knowledge the race boost adds some points to the skill.

Don't know about repairing, but as outfitter I can't and I doubt pure armorers can either.

Armor with stat boni is crafted like any other armor, just the stats bossted might change with the quality (example: a robe with +2 INT in normal version wouldn't add any INT but 3 STR instead when pristine.

As for comparing dropped armor with crafted or quested, I guess it's too early for anyone to know it. Many Items quested/looted can be crafted too. Hard to tell without every recipe discovered Smiley: wink

I'm a level 17 outfitter, heading for armorer, so maybe I can answer a few of your questions. But, many can't be answered til someone gets high enough level to know.

At level 17, I cannot make better armor than I can quest for, and I cannot repair my armor. You will need MANY components for crafting from the market, other players, and sometimes the prices are ridiculous. My hubby a scholar, and he's going to make a mint cause that is the class that can make the stroma wash, stroma resin, stroma oil, iron buckles, and eolith temper that a level 10-19 outfitter MUST HAVE. In our guild, he is the ONLY one that is going scholar route....hint, hint.

The plus for outfitter is that at level 15 you can make 8 slot bags (provided you buy all those ingredients from a scholar) and sell them. There is high demand for those.

I'm hoping for 12 slot bags at level 20+. There is money to be made here so you can buy what you need, but you have to understand the interdependencies to work it right. Seems everyone is going outfitter.

Had more to say than I thought lol. Hope this helps.

I am not even concentrating on crafting at this point - however; I do know that Adept and Apprentice III scrolls and books are MUCH sought after. So is furniture . . .

If you follow the market over a few days - these items seem to get eaten up. Right now the market is sooo rediculous I refuse to buy Adept books . . . hence I am sorta stuck with weakened casts. When I see one drop in price I scoop it.

I have seen AppIIIs going for better than a gold each - that is assinine! Go figure - someone gouges you or tries too - they risk you not having the spell-strength to save their asses in a group with them . . .

I am an armorer now level 23 and you never get an opportunity to repair your own armor. I can make pristine chainmail for very little that is better than what I have quested as a 19 crusader.

Trouble is now as an armorer I can make carbonite armor but I need a temper that I am not sure who makes and patterns that I am also not sure who makes. I have heard the temper is alchemy and the pattern I am not sure on so I am kind of stuck and screwed till everyone catches up or passes me and I don't see many alchemists running around.

The buffs work like this at level 10 you get durability buffs that are specific to the path you have chosen, ex. I am an outfitter so I got durability buffs for sewing, metal working etc but I got none for chemisty or baking. At level 20 I got very specific buffs for making armor that provide only progress and not durability. My assumption being every 10 levels you get durability or progress buffs, either or not both, for the path you have chosen.

In hindsite I look at a broker and see an unlimited supply of carbonite armor for 1g at times and I wonder if at the point I can make my own armor it is even feasable to do so. But I can't seem to find the tempers or patterns so I assume the person that makes them could make a little profit.

I guess it depends on what you want its nice making armor for those that need it but at the point you can use the armor the quested heavy armor is better. If your an armorer going that path to gear yourself up you might be in for as rude an awakening as I was.

You can make a little profit, some gear for your friends and a little for yourself and everyone gets to wear items with your name on them. Yes you all have my name tatooed right up on the asscheek of your greaves.

Oh well back to the forge the only place for a dwarf and the only place I have actually died when crafting. Take the path that suits you a dwarf, in my own opinion, sits his grumpy little *** in front of the forge mumbling and grumbling with his eyebrows on fire and hammers out armor.

An elf sits his cute little petite heiny in front of a scribe table , scratching his head and pondering the complexity of life and the forest and whatever else.

Hope that helps some if you need specifics on how to hammer out some pristine equip or anything else post and I will see what I can do.

You have seen app3 skills go for a gold? Maybe tier III, yes, but not tier II. I am a level 19 Scholar, and sell tier II scrolls for 9sp each, which is a pretty good price on my server. I would rather sell lots of them for less, then make a killing on one, as you can level much faster doing the latter. At first, being a Scholar/Sage does not look very enticing at lower levels, especially when all you can make is tier I. No one wants to buy them because Addept I is readily available. But tier II, and higher, are eaten up!

My only problem with being a scholar? The ridiculous hurrdles that you have to cross to get your hands on silver clusters/coral to make addept III!! 3.5-7gp a piece on my server, and they are so rare, that you may level your tradeskills to tier III without ever seeing one ><
