Man, that's got to be rough. What do you go around raiding zones for no good reason?

George would be a teir'dal that would recruit a bunch of newbies and send them off to war on the dwarves in vengence for the fall of neriak.

Those nomads have Magics of Mass Destruction(MMD) and have ties to the Thexians!!! We got defend ourselves against!!! I'm not waiting for them to strike us first!!! We are fighting for our freedom!! Sure, they've never attacked us nor have a proper navy or any mean whatsoever to attack and/or threaten our freedom, but.. umm, you know... YEAH!! Don't mess with Texas..er, I mean Stonestair!!!

IMO the OP is expecting too much more other players. RP or not they are people in RL, not in a fantasy world., so expect to get all soft of ugliness you'd expect in RL. sure I meet some good players and bad players but usually if I act nice people would act nice to me too. But I agree with what you are doing because it's just a game, and if other players are taking the fun out just /ignore them.

Hmmmm... I've been reading and I appreciate the input. Here are some comments based on a few posts:

I know that I have done rude things to others. My point is that I care that I have hurt another. My beef is not wth people who inadvertantly upset me. My beef is with people who know they are hurtful and who don't care >>and<< who expect me to put up with it. All three things >>together<< are the factors that will lead me to wanting to put someone on ignore.

I'm also not referring to people who avoid answering general questions posted to a general group of people or who miss a post because they were afk or busy. I am referring, for example, to a party leader who intentionally refrains from answering direct questions from members of their group as a method for controlling the group.

IRL I am not anti-social nor a religious fundamentalist. (For example, I have kids, I'm married, I've participate in musicals, I have had the same job for four years, and I have friends... all of those things take some degree of social skill).

Oddly enough, this cycle of unpleasant events seems to have stopped and I'm thankful for having the opportunity to share my thoughts. I am clearer and more confident about what I want out of the game and about how I think I should play it.

I think it just really upsets people who are intent on being cruel that I would rather be alone and unsuccessful in the game than to put up with their crap for one more second, because that is the only attitude that they can't use to their benefit.

There are a >>few<< people who succeed in MMORPGs by using people who are unwilling to say "stop lying to me or I won't play with you" or "listen to me or I will not play with you". I'm not talking about someone who has just had a bad day. The degree of rudness I am referring to can only be caused by long-term, unchecked behavior that is consistantly rewarded by complacency on the behalf of those whom they offend.

It's true that /ignore won't solve my inability to work things out with these people who I perceive as rude. However, if a problem can't be solved though a brief conversation then /ignore is the best way for me to make sure that same character will not have the opportunity to benefit from my advise or my time in the future. I am at a loss for another solution.

With all that said it's my complacency that upsets me more than anything. : /

I don't believe that this is the case, except with the most hardcore of griefers. In your oringinal post you made it out like anyone who did anything you did not like was going to be ignored instantly.

Try applying that to real life, and you would soon find yourself alone never leaving the house. People are frequently even more rude in a game like this because they can hide behind anonymity.

Ignore those who go out of their way to annoy you, thats fine. But ignoring someone who shares the same node as you is uncalled for. What if they didn't see you, or what if they came up at the same time and each of you thought it was your node? Then, four months from now, you end up in a party and cannot hear what this person is saying.

You come across as the *** because you are ignoring them, and they don't even know why.

I'll throw in my 2cp on this. I do find that people in general are more rude in this game than other MMORPG's I have played. I think this is in part due to the fast that the game is much like EQ1 and there are a lot of know-it-all's out there. On the same note however I always try to be a very nice and curteous player but I have already had 2 or 3 occasions where I was talking with someone and they totally took what I was saying the wrong way and got mad at me. Are people just more touchy in EQ2?

I dunno if it's touchy as it is a limitation of text-level conversation. Without facial expressions and tone to aid in carrying across meaning a lot of more common phrases used IRL could easily be taken as an out-right insult if all you have to go on is the text, and I suspect very few people ask for clarification from the person speaking before doing a /ignore.

anywho, my ignore list is empty.. though one person *almost* made it onto the list allready. I'll treat the ignore list like I treated my blacklist in FFXI.. it has to be something memorable. My BL in FFXI was VERY short and to date I could tell you what each person on it did in exacting detail and that's months after the incident.

Yes, I was completely fed up when I wrote that post. It seemed like a good idea at the time. : D I mostly needed a break, as someone wisely suggested, which I got by spending several hours here each day over the weekend. And next week I am going out of town for 10 days with no Internet. ::shivers on the floor, foaming at the mouth::

I completely agree with Rotacidare Scholar:

Those with the 'know-it-all' big ol uber egos are why I quit EQ once before. (It's a game kiddies! Only a game!)

Everyone that agrees with threadstarter on every point should add Burnie on ignorelist if they play on Faydark.

Also, threadstarter needs to stop thinking the world rotates around him.

I saw someone like him in EQ1.. We were doing epic 1.5 quest. My friend got pissed at this dude because he thought he was so special.
What did my friend do? He charmed the most bad assed mob in the zone (was a newbie zone), hasted the mob. Uncharmed and then trained the guy. Guess if he got pissed.. :p
As if that wasnt enough he whoopped his *** with /duell aswell..

was alot of fun.

Some people needs to be tought a lesson..

Wow doing your epic 1.5 in a newbe zone? Or just picking on the 2 to 5L peeps after you made 70L? Me thinks maybe you are one of the ones that they think is so rude in the game?
