People who solo in parties *rant*Follow

I appologize for the following rant, but I just accumulated 20% experience debt and must be allowed to let off some steam.

I was in a party yesterday where one of the members inexplicably decided to run off while members were afk and aggro everything in the region. By the time he was done, he had brought back a train so large, I couldn't even count them all. We all died. His excuse was that he just wanted to solo some stuff while he waited.

In another party (again while people were afk), someone decides to sprint through some mobs to get to an NPC to finish his quest without telling anyone. He, of course, gets aggroed and then dies spreading his exp debt to everyone in the party.

There are basically two things that I want to say about these events:

1. When you are in a party, please behave like you are in a party the whole time. Don't go off and do your own thing. If you want to do your own thing, then leave the party. Even if you're the only one who dies, everyone gets saddled with the exp debt.

2. If you do happen to get mass aggro, don't bring the chain back to the party (especially when they're mostly afk). Lead them as far away from the party as possible to minimize your and everyone elses exp debt.

#2REDACTED, Posted: Dec 10 2004 at 12:29 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) you forgot to mention the worst of all, the idiots who like to show that they can pull too while you already have a puller. in eq1 i had no problem letting them die for being stupid, but now the whole group suffers for their death. is that really fair? although i must admit that the penalties are relatively small and the debt does go away slowly while you are logged off. again it degenerates with time.

Less bad, but still annoying...

The person who stops to gather or mine or fish while everyone else is busy fighting.

how about the group of kids that asks you to help with a mob that is higher than you are... i tried to leave 3x, but they insisted i stay in the group, even though i was quite low for the mob. then while waiting for the spawn, which had a pretty short spawn time. without saying anything, they run into the next room, heaven only knows why, as we'd just cleared it, leaving me and a guildy in the spawn area.

spawn pops, aggros me, kills me in seconds, since it was orange ... and the nasty little showoff-cocky-overcompensatingforsomethingwewonttalkabout crusader (who's several levels above me) screams at my wee brawler for giving him debt.

the rest of the group was more gracious, and received assistance later when they needed to find something.

the crusader made my ignore list (difficult to do, only had 5 in EQ1) *and* my friends list (nigh impossible to make it onto both), so i'd know when he was on, and where.

only 2 people ever accomplished this feat in all the years i played EQ1, and they wondered why they got no buffs when others were getting them for nothing ... runy has a very long memory /grin.

moral? be nice, cuz it will come back around :).

#5REDACTED, Posted: Dec 10 2004 at 1:12 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) lol i would like to bring up the idiot cleric. i play a cleric on torv, level 55 dark elf named sirheals alot. my group decided to do a double cleric, she never called her heals and we would waste many double healing cause she wouldn't stop after i called a heal either. then finally she starts calling heals after i request her to in group say. five minutes later she calls a heal on the main tank, but never actually heals him and he dies. then she starts yelling at me for not healing him... yup if she had gotten aggro'd she wouldn't of gotten a heal. i give a disclaimer when entering a group as a cleric, i reserve rights to hold their life forfeit. lol jk but i do not rush to heal people who are idiots

i understand your frustration, but you arent quite graspign the issue here. WTF are you doing going afk in a area where you have KOS mobs?

ya that guy is a idiot for pulling too many mobs, or training, but sometimes **** happens. now, for you dumb noobs who think you can walk away from the comp when ever you want.. wake the fook up. i see this too much in EQ2. and if my group is AFK or sitting at the zoneline waiting for a certian class, i will be deeper in the zone ( like FG) killing quest mobs. granted they are gray to me, but still. get the **** out or make sure you are in a safe area to go afk.

So whenever you are partying in Antonica and you have to pee, do you ask the entire party to head back to town so you can pee? People go afk all the time in zones with KOS mobs. The trick is to find spots far enough away from KOS mobs and spawn sites that you won't get aggroed by just standing around.

You seem to be the one that is missing my point. We were camping pretty far away from KOS mobs when we went afk. I never said or implied that half the party went afk in the middle of roaming KOS mobs. Stop twisting the situation to suit your own pet peeves. I agree that going afk near KOS mobs is dangerous, but that's not what I was talking about. Make your own thread if you want to complain about something different.

The problem occurred because someone didn't have enough patience and self control to stay near the party in the safe area and ran off on their own to unsafe areas while people are afk. This does not fall under the category of sh*t happens. This is someone doing something completely selfish and stupid that didn't need to happen.

Today my Shaman was invited to a group. I rode a Griffon to the Steppes Station, and started heading toward them. (They were a bit north.) On my way there, they decided to engage a mob. It wasn't going well. They all died.

So, before I even got to camp, I got to share in 4 other people's debt. I raised them all and disbanded. Which was probably kind of mean, but I don't put up with that crap.

And this bizarre solo type activity surprises you? Geez, I'm rather used to the person who decides they have to finish betrayal while thier in town to drop a copper or two, and expect people to wait. Or the ones who expect a group of 4 to take a tower of oranges.

Behavior modification never worked via forum posts, as far as I can tell. Although most of us agree with you, I'm also sure it won't change anyone.

I love when people decide to invite you out of the blue right before they are about to die. I, the ususpecting and innocent, yet curious, soul that I am, of course join the group, and bam, several deaths.

Today someone requested my help and invited me. I accepted, and after much prodding, she finally revealed that she needed to retrieve her corpses (she had died 4 times). I say okay, show me where they are. Turns out they're in the middle of an area packed with orange KOS mobs...and she's a few levels lower than I am.

So I think for a minute, and say "target a mob near your shards so I can see where they are" (since I can't see them). So she runs directly to her shard, which apparently she had tried 3 times before, and once again is unsuccessful. However, this time, there's me there to take some of the debt. Yay. She revives, comes back, I say "just target a mob near your shards, I can train them away to clear a path." What does she do? Makes a beeline directly for her shards again, and is once again beat down, and once again gives me more debt.

Fortunately, I was saved from the potentially awkward situation of bailing on her, because she went LD after that death.
