Last night a buddy of mine and myself decided to make alternate toons for a different line of craft skills. While we were running around the IOR completing our quests, we noticed a group of 3 characters camping an area and just killing goblin after goblin.

They were there for a good two hours. Chests were dropping all over the place and they were just letting them rot.

Now IOR is a fairly easy place to level and complete the starter quests. Why on earth would you have to camp and area with a high goblin spwan rate???

Is it just for the name of Goblin Hunter???

Yes.

Although it also used to be for the rare crafting books that dropped on the IoR. But since they don't drop there anymore, there shouldn't be any reason for people to stay.

Personally, I think it's silly of them. But it's not my $15 per month, and they can stay on the island as long as they want if they like.

i've seen an individual doing this, and sent him a tell asking if he was aware that the items in the chests can generally be sold for a nice bit of coin. he had no idea, and thanked me for telling him.

there seems to be a large number of people playing eq2 that have never played an mmorpg. perhaps this could be one reason.

then again, i have heard of people being *that* obsessed with the titles... so ya never know :).

They must have been trying to get the goblin slayer title. You can't ding lvl 7 until you complete a city citizenship quest, so couldnt have been PLing that much.

I know I stayed on a little while to try and collect books. That used to be the main reason to hit the protecters a lot.

Now.. Either they dont know the books are not supposed to drop, the books are dropping, or they are going for the title. :) That or I missed something as usual.

It could be that, or to get their kill count up on the stats pages.

You can't level but you keep getting experience. When I started crafting, I spent a *lot* of time on IoR gathering material and crafting. Before I left, I had receieved 230% XP to my next level. When I got citizenship, I ding'd straight to level 8.

I believe you can accumulate 230% xp at level 6 before you no longer receive any xp. That number may be higher or lower but I know I dinged 2 levels once I became a citizen.

On the Island you can:

1.) Accumulate 220% Exp Granted you can do this in newbie zone on mainland but personal preference. this way you are level 8 instantly when you arrive, just go right into the citizen quest.

2.) Cap all harvesting skills except Trapping (to 47)

3.) Build tradeskill level to nine, and make some useful starter items (I filled my bank and inventory up with backpacks, and made my own weapons and food, I lucked out and found quite a few nodes of pepper :) This was the best reason for me to stay on the island as long as possible.

4.) Goblin title, which is probably what they were doing, considering they left the chests.

and if any of my toons ever gained it, you can bet your sweet bippy that s/he wont be walking round wearing it. it's just too common :x.

tis every man's prerogative to, though, and i respect that right :).

I know some people are doing it for goblin hunter and goblin slayer. I stayed long enough to get Goblin Hunter and at times I would have to leave the treasure because it contained lore items which I could only hold one of.

I am suspicious of one group who were hiring level 3 characters (for 10 silver!) to kill crabs for knife drops. They had their Goblin Slayer titles, the hardest thing to get there in my opinion, so I just kind of wonder what they were getting out of doing that. I really hate it when people interfere with my gaming because of bias or ignorance so I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. Anyone know what value there is in collecting the knife drops from the crabs?

The forest stalkers in the forest ruins count towards goblin kills. Just a bit of info incase anyone wants the title who has already left the IOR.

The only thing that I can think of is that the fishbone knives sell for a pretty good price at the vendor. (Comparatively...)

Also, there is a quest you can get from a lore drop on the crabs. They could have these people fight crabs until they get a chest, and then group with them and get the lore item.

All it gets you is a mediocre necklace though, so I don't know for sure what the real motivation is.
