App2s are cast at a couple levels above app1. Generaly App2's are a waste as you can get Ap3's for the same or a lower price if your willing to shop around.

Going from app1 to app3 I have more then doubled my damage, and when I picked up Adept3 I noticed another damage bump and lower resist rate.

From App1 to App2 the jump was not as noticable, but I did see my damage trend up a bit.

As a general rule, I try to hit the Broker and find an App III version of my spell right away. However, if I can't find one, I generally will upgrade to the App II as a temporary fix. They aren't very expensive, and I like to do as much as I can to improve my performance.

That said, they really aren't a substantial boost from App I. But sometimes every little bit counts. :)

My damage went from 25-30 to 44-55 when I upgrade. I expect your range may very depending on the targets your fighting and when you get your upgrades. I work with trade skills for the most part, so by the time I was level 9 I already had upgrade all my spells to App3 at least and they were all Orange to me.

I suspect the increase may have been in part because it was not expected that users may have Adept spells that early.. but you will see a very noticable boost when you upgrade. :)

Has anyone noticed that large of a jump from app3 to add1? I really did not notice anything, which kinda makes me wonder if the money was wasted.

On the one nuke that have an Adept 1 I didn't notice much improvement from the App III version. I will scribe an Adept 1 if it happens to drop, but I don't buy them since I can make all my own App III spells. I don't have any Adept III spells yet so I can't comment on that (hoping to find the rare ingredients some day).

The "grade" of a spell acts as a modifier to your effective level, for casting purposes. There are four grades to each catagory (Apprentice, Adept, and Master) but not all of them are in the game yet. If you have the Apprentice I version in your Book, you can scribe any better versions you acquire. There are no level prerequisites for upgrades.

Apprentice I = level-1 (granted automatically, except for the "fun" spells with purely cosmetic effects)
Apprentice II = baseline (storebought)
Apprentice III = level+1 (crafted from common harvests)
Apprentice IV = level+2 (not yet in game. Reported on Test Server that Pristine crafting of App.3 recpipe yields App.4)
Adept I = level+3 (uncommon drop)
Adept II = level+4 (not yet in game. Supposedly quested)
Adept III = level+5 (crafted from rare harvests, recipes are in uncommon dropped books)
Adept IV = level+6 (not yet in game. Based on current Test Server status of App.4, these will likely be Pristine results of Adept III crafting)
Master I = level+7 (rare drop or character advancement choice)
Master II = level+8 (not yet in game. Very hard and insanely long quest?)
Master III = level+9 (crafted from very rare drops, recipes are in rare dropped books)
Master IV = level+10 (ultra-rare drop or awarded by GM. Artifact rarity of around one per server. Not hard-limited to just one in existence, but don't expect to ever own one of these)

So, using a Master I version, you cast that spell as if you were seven levels higher than you really are. The devs balanced the game around the assumption that everyone would have App.3 spells. If you're using better, that's just gravy. Do not expect to upgrade ALL of your spells to Adepts or Masters. If you get even half of them beyond Apprentice grade, you're doing very well.

I notice that on some stage I master my spell and it becomes grey to me. I upgraded my minor heal at adept I and it is still grey to me. Does it make any diffrence to bother to upgrade old spells or are they worthless after they are mastered on a sertail levels?

once upon a time far far away.... oh whoops!

being serious tho it depends on the skill, but in any case if it gets better its an upgrade. i think im gonna hunt down an app3 and adept 1s just and see what the improvements are myself to see if its worth the cash.

not to impressed witht he differnece between ap1 and adept 1 nevermind app1 & 2.

If I have the money and nothing better to spend it on then sure I'll pick up some skills otherwise I wouldn't bother the dmg increase is debatable and usually fractional rather than the x2 boast of some insane people

Technina,

And I see you yet again, but this time calling people liars. Man you are the best Forum guy ever. I upgraded my Thrust Kick from App 3 to Adept 3 and it did almost double output of dmg for that skill. My kicks went from avg of say 35 to an avg of around 55. That's pretty upgraded if you ask me.

Calling people on something you weren't there to see is dumb. Who knows what monsters he was fighting to base his findings on? Was he buffed? Was he underbuffed? Was he fighting Evens or lower? Nobody really knows but him so shut up..

Just because he got different results doesn't mean he is wrong...

yeesh I feel like the Forum police today. Must be my mood.
