Wizard vs WarlockFollow

#1 Dec 09 2004 at 9:07 AM Rating: Decent
I am about to start my class subquest and unfortunately this one it seems I need to know what I wanna be before I begin. I have no idea since I can't get anyone to give me any feedback on either class except the general "wizards use elemental attacks...mostly nukes, and Warlocks use poison and disease..."
Are warlock spells mostly D.O.T. or do they also get nukes? DO they get any sort of Familiar like Wizards or no? If not is there some other specialty thing they do recieve?
Any info would be helpful. I dont want to pick one and a week from now say to myself "I wish I had gone with...". I already did that once when I picked scribe instead of alchemist and I havn't touched artisan much after that.
Thanks in advance.

They get both. However, a point to note is that Wizards get many of their good nukes early on in the 20's, while Warlocks have to wait a bit longer for them.

Also, there is a certain amount of debate about the strength of Wizard vs. Warlock nukes, but until I see some parsing, I'm not going to buy into any of the hype either way. ;)

Both get a familiar (it's just a fun spell that you pay for, and which does absolutely nothing to benefit you), and get very similar spells that just work in different ways.

For a list of all of the spells each class gets, check here. Please be warned that if you don't want to be spoiled on what spells you'll be getting, don't click the link. :)

Thanks Miravelle, and I have to say I really liked your post on "Cray babies". It was very well said.

I am a lvl 26 warlock and I am very happy with my class choice. Wizards do nuke for more in one blast than warlocks do but it's not a huge difference. As was mentioned earlier wizards get their nukes at an earlier lvl than the warlocks do.

There are alot of people who seem to think that warlocks do damage with dots more than nukes. From looking at both of their spell lists, wizards actually have more dots than warlocks. Either way you go, the best thing you can do is upgrade your spells. When I first got dark distortion (at lvl 23) it was hitting for around 150. Last night I finally shelled out 3 gold and got the adept one and now it hits for 350-400 with debuffs.

When warlocks first started getting dark distortion, it was way, way underpowered. Blaze at app3 was hitting for more. Then one day I looked at the patch notes and it said, "Warlock spell dark distortion has had it's damage increaced." Thats pretty cool that SoE was looking out for us and trying to keep things as balanced as possible.

Right now the familars are just for fun. Warlocks don't actually get one until lvl 30 and the wizard lvl 20 familar is pretty much useless. Later in the game I think, at least I hope, the familars for both wizards and warlocks will have some purpose. Flowing thought or improved damage would be nice.

Some people don't really like the visual effects of the warlock spells. I actually do, some of them are green clouds, but some of them are kinda cool IMO. If you are looking for big explosions and bright flames then that would be more wizard territory.
