Video Cards <more>Follow

Ok, I know this issue has been hashed out several times but before you rip the crap out of me please listen. I have a Geforce FX 5200 128 DDR video card. I have 1gb of ram and a 2100 athon chipset. I have the settings on high performance or whatever the lowest quality settings they have and I am still laggy. I have a DSL connection and cant beleive that there systems say anythig lower then what I have. Ya I can get through places and see decent looking graphics but I cant beleive at the lowest settings possible it still lags on my system. Any suggestions as to what I should do. Is there anything I can turn off or change to get better performance. Like I said I cant beleive people are actually running this game on anything lower then my system. Also I have about 150 dollars and would like to get a better video card since I guess this is not enough. Is it just the fact that the 5200 seris cards are junk? Thanks for the help.

5200fx is one of the worst graphic cards released with a directx 9 pixel shader.

Bought one and the next day returned it for the next model up.

High Performance is the lowest setting? Are you sure?

I would manually set it to the lowest resolution possible. I don't know what that is.. then I would turn off most of the lighting and shadowning features. Some of it is off by default but some are on. EQ2 has a whole long list of display features, I would go through the list and turn off most of what you don't think is necessary. And the 5200 cards are pretty bad. The AMD 2100 might also be a little bit limiting.. I'd consider overclocking it. My old 1700, overclocks to about 3000 speed.

My system runs fine with the default settings (it should, i bought a new computer for this, heh) ATI radeon 9800 pro (the 128 one, not 256) a gig o' ram and the processor is athlon 3200+... Problem is, is that it's a P.O.S Hewlit Packard, bleh. Can't upgrade much of anything. Oh ya and it's a cable hookup, cause in Canada cable still runs way faster than DSL (don't believe what the phone company tells you, they lie, and lie, and lie). If yer gonna run Athlon (which you should) Try an ATI card, they work really well together.

Your CPU and video card are both holding you back. Athlon XPs used to be good, two years ago or so, but now their performance is awful compared to P4s (even those in the 2.4-3.0GHz range) and especially Athlon 64s. You're really going to need to upgrade both things if you want a smooth experience.

Your best bet would be to save up for a new motherboard, A64 3200+, and a 6600GT. You might need new memory too, depending on the speed.

I have eq2 installed both at home and at work.. at home it works great.. at work it pretty much sucks. The fx5200 is crap for this game.

Home system:
AMD XP 2500+
1gb RAM
Radeon 9700PRO 128mb

Work system:
AMD 64 2800
1gb RAM
GeForce FX5200

So despite the 'old' CPU I'm using at home, it runs smooth in High performance setting, while at work I have to play in Extreme Perf (lowest setting) and even then at work it still has a lot of graphic lag.. ex: hit arrow to turn, computer pauses half a second and then turns.

So even though an XP 2100+ isn't a great CPU by today's standards, replacing the video card first is highly recommended.

I just bought a Radeon 9800 256 Meg and 256 bit , if you want the link I'll show it to ya. Only cost 206$, no shipping or sales tax cost like newegg. (it isn't pro, but so what)

Running a 5900fx here 1gig ram 2ghz athlon xp and still not happy with my card. For any upgrading i would leave the fx series behind.

Dont listen to this jibberish, that is still a reasonable processor and AMD xp's ARE NOT falling behind the p4's as he stated.

Id put my AMD XP 2600 Mobile against any 130nm P4 in a benchmark test and guarentee i would out perform and run cooler
than the p4 (130nm)

Save up a few hundred bucks and start looking at the 6600GT, its a 256 bit 128 meg card that supports all the new DX9 features and is smoking fast.

if thats to much to swing the ATI 9600xt is still a great card for a great price now that a new generation of cards has rolled out.
