WoW or EQ2Follow

Hi there,

For those of you that have experience in both games. Is WoW really better for the solo player? That seems to be what I am hearing but I wanted to check before I go shell out the cash for another game.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I have one of my own. Why would you come to an E2 forum to ask anything about WoW?

My question is for people that have played BOTH games to see how they stacked up. There a thousands of people out there that have played both games in beta form and once they went live. I am merly trying to find out what their opinions are. Thats why I posted my question in this forum, because I know there are people that have played both games and many of those people read these forums.

Anyway what are you opinions of how the games stack up for the solo/casual player.

I play both games. WoW when I can, My sons play it more often. WoW IMO is a much faster and has more fun for the single player. The quests are easy to understand and at levels below 20 are much easier to do. Now I have heard people put down both games and at time I can hate EQ2. But I have also grown to love it as much as hate it. Soloing in EQ2 is not that bad but you temd to have to be a higher level then the mobs you want to kill which in turn lowers the chance of getting the drops you are after.

Trade skilling is a nightmare in EQ2, to make an end product you will spend hours doing combines. Tradeskilling in WoW is fast and easy. Both games require you to grather items to do combine. So you will spend as much time gathering in either game.

Both games offer a lot of fun to players but the person playing the game has to decide if they want to play an easy fast paced game (WoW) or a more realistic, complicated game (EQ2).

wow what are you soloing? my summoner and sorceress can pretty easily and consistently take up to yellow con solo's and certain blue or even white con groups if there is not more than one of them... sometimes even duo group mobs with planning (typically blue con).

honestly I find solo'ing pretty easy in EQ2.. not quite the no-brainer that is solo'ing in SWG.. but still pretty simple particularly if you go in with a plan. I can't speak for WoW cause I don't play it, but for the way I think and play solo'ing is not an issue in EQ2.

I beta tested WOW and it's definately more solo oriented as far as I could tell. But, there were people close to the highest level after like two weeks. How much enjoyment can you get out of a game where you've reached the goal after two weeks. I haven't played much of EQ2 yet, finals week. But it's a much better game so far, for what I want.

I know how you feel about solo. I really just tend to rely on myself in MMO games, because too many times I join groups and end up getting into exp debt or dying in EQ2.

I played WoW beta, and the solo is a true blast, and funner if you just duo. However, you will be disappointed for character custimization, and the lack of having much to do after level 25+.

If WoW had as many classes, and character custimization choices, it would indeed beat EQ2 in my book. But as it stands, EQ2 will definetly make your soloing a much funner experience. Buy EQ2 I say, and if it really doesn't float your boat, WoW is just another 50 dollars away.

Hope that helps =)

I cureently play both games. I play EQ2 if I have a whole night to play and play WoW if I only have 1-2 hours. WoW is a much faster paced game whereas EQ2 is a more realistic and detailed game. If you are the kind of person who won't have much time to play everyday, then WoW is for you, but if you do have time to play and want a more immersed experience, EQ2 is the way to go. Below lvl 20 both games can solo pretty well. but after lvl 20 it's not that possible to solo in EQ2, and in WoW I haven't gone that far so I have no comment.

>"my summoner and sorceress can pretty easily and consistently take up to yellow con solo's"

The reason you can still solo yellow cons is in your sig :

"Juri - High Elf | Sorceress 12th level - Oasis
Neriss - Half Elf | Predator 15th level - Toxxulia
lysseth - Wood Elf | Priest 6th level - Crushbone
Iaini - Half Elf | Summoner 11th level - Toxxulia "

Get one of your chars to lvl 20 and try soloing. It can be done, I can still kill an even con 'solo' mob at 22. Yellow cons are risky though. Neither is particularly worth the risk. At lower levels (ie prior to about 17 or so), I could solo even con 'group' mobs and any yellow con 'solo' mob I saw. Lvl 20 mobs hit a *lot* harder than pre-20 mobs (like, 150+ hits is not at all unusual, and named even cons can hit for 300+).

It sounds like WoW is a better game for me. You guys have comfirmed what I thought, for the casual player WoW is more friendly.
Don't get me wrong EQ2 seems like an awsome game but I can already see that im going to have the same issue with it that I had with EQ1. Once I fell behind the curve of most players there was nothing for me to do but solo in the same places over and over. There were so many interesting zones in EQ1 but I couldn't play in them because nearly all of the players had pregressed beyond them and they were empty. I know i'm speculating but I forsee this being the case for me in EQ2 as well. Early on its great and you can accomplish a lot but like many have said after about 20 it changes and that is the way the game is designed, thats the way SOE wants it and thats the way thousands and thousands of people like it. I just can't do it anymore.

Thanks for your honest opinions

Peace

Sinkad, I am 29th. I can solo mobs 5 levels higher than me without any problem as long as they are flagged solo. Whites and yellows don't even dent my health, and take about two bubbles of power to kill.

So, yes, you can solo just fine in this game. Get your equipment up to date, and your spells. It makes all the difference.

i beta'd both, and play both. the mechanics and the play styles differ, but both games have merit.

i find myself playing eq2 more, as wow doesnt fit my play style as well. i've soloed and grouped in both games, and havent had any problems in that area. i've also had no problems with taking several days, or a week, off from eq2, as i believe both games are what you make them. you dont have to be hardcore to play either one.

most of my guild went to wow, and i'm leading the remnant in eq2. the only reason i keep the wow acct active is to talk to the rest of the guild on occasion. the game didnt hold my attention.

one of the bits i dont like about wow is the pvp, and yes, i know i dont have to go in the pvp areas, but that doesnt mean i have to like it :).

the quest systems are different. in wow, your quest items take up space, in eq2 they dont. in wow, you know exactly what you will receive from a quest before you accept it, in eq2, the npcs will hint at the reward, but you're unsure. in eq2, there's even one quest where, when you return the items requested, and the guy says, "um... yeah... i'm gonna need another 4"... but the reward isnt bad :).

i guess eq2 seems more realistic, and wow more cartoonish... but i dont say that to slam wow... just to try to clarify the tone of the game. and yes, i realize that i'm saying i favour the realism in my fantasy rpg :).

and i have actually enjoyed the tradeskilling in eq2 :). havent really tried it in wow so i cant compare em.

ooo boss alert... hope that helped :D

I have only played EQ2 but the soloing seems fine to me. There is even a thread in this forum about players soloing 7 levels above them.

As a 23 level character, I can take out Solo mobes that are level 26. I can take out 2 Solo yellow mobs at the same time. I believe they were level 24-25 Soldiers in Steppes. The only reason I haven't killed mobs higher than 26 is that I haven't tried. The level 26 mobs leave me with a little under 50% of my POWER so I should be able to kill higher solos.

Blues and Greens are no problem. I usually solo 3-5 groups of greens if they are required for quests, and no, I am not kidding. Not too bad XP because of the extra group xp.
