He then ran away, never to be seen again. this made me want to be a rouge, but i havent found ANY info on how he did this....i have tried everything and every web site. I was not dreaming this, it happened! does anyone know how to pickpocket? please, please....it was the main reason i wanted to be a rouge.

Every class gets this ability, actually. Here's how you set it up.

1. Open up your socials window.
2. Click the macros tab.
3. Open a new macro and type this (exactly) in the window:
"/em steals 2 silver from %t."
4. Assign this macro an icon then drag it into a hot key slot.
5. ???
6. Profit

A few notes.

You must have the player who you are trying to use this macro on targeted.
Works best on people who are under level 10 (maybe 20, or even higher, depending on who is behind the keyboard.)

Depends on who is behind the keyboard huh?
Thought I was the only person with licence on sarcasm on this forum ;-)

Does higher agility increase chance of success or is it random or what?

If you catch a person at the bank, you can steal directly from their bank account with the same method. The plunder is not limited to currency, armor and items can be pickpocketed also using this method.

by the way:
/slap is the emote I miss the most from ffxi. It would work great here.

I've actually found the easiest thing to steal with this ability is their dignity.

A couple more questions: How do you prevent things from getting stolen from you? Can items you are wearing be stolen?

/bonk

I hear that if you go through each of your emotes you will be safe for the length of your play time. Smiley: wink

The best way to prevent things from being stolen from you is to perform this ability on another player. Look for the item that was stolen. If you find it, you are still vulnerable and people may take your things.

If that is the case, post back here and I'll see if I can help you out.

This is funny stuff. Btw I read that one char gets a lvl 20 "frivolous" ability that is similar to /slap - they get to bonk a grouped member on the head. I think it's brigand or assassin, but I'm not sure.

"/em hangs %t off the top of the Antonica Claymore by his steel underwear" is always a proper option for pickpockets. If a Herculean wedgie doesn't work, /em's involving involuntary colonics introduced on the thief and backpacks full of herbal crap (and heck, toss in the elm and maple pieces, too) that you've been harvesting should do the job. Be careful at this point, however - if you're too colorful it could result in a GM warning...

Ok, I've been trying for three hours now and it doesn't work. Everytime it says that I have stolen their coin, but nothing appears in my inv. I think it is a hoax.

All sarcasm aside. Is there a pickpocket skill in game currently? The original Everquest has one that went through many changes as to who/what you could steal from.

Nice thread:)

Brigands, if they line up perfectly, can do a stabstab that will steal some coin as well at lvl 20.

So don't stand around in one place for too long.

OMG......people take the time to read ALL the posts here. The /em you were given earlier evidently has a very little unknown side effect of /em steals your time and then reads as you waste it.

Very funny guys. You know, you were once noobs too. Just trying to get better. People like you make that difficult.

It did happen to Erroden(hubby in RL) I was standing right there watching him play as it happened-someone stole 2 silver from him. He said "hey, gimme back my money" lol. The guy ran away...but it was very funny!
In EQOA rouges were able to steal from mobs-not sure about other players though, but they should at least be able to from mobs in this game-I mean rouges are thieves, right? Just MHO. :)

No, rogues are thieves ;p

I remember back in EQ I fell for this during my first week or two. After that I made a point to do it during groups for the next couple of weeks. Needless to say, I had to explain myself a few times..

Hey now, closely reading this thread should clue you into the fact that we're all joking here. Anyone who wants to steal from other players, and tries to do so deserves a little shot of humility.

To give a non sarcastic answer to those who want to get better without honing their reading skills, No, you can not steal anything at all from other players unless you somehow scam them in a trade. Rogues do not get a pickpocket-from-mobs ability in eq2.

Lets take just a second and think about the game as a whole: Sony is going to great lengths to build a strong player to player economy. This is evident in all of the changes they have made to tradeskill items and harvestied item price changes.

What kind of hypocrites would they be if they a) gave all players the option to steel currency and items at will from other players, or even b) set up a money making class that had an advantage over all other classes?

How would these be consistent with the other goals sony has professed regarding balance between classes? Why would it EVER make sense in ANY situation to be able to steal from players?

Maybe this isn't perfectly obvious to everyone, but come on, dont be a party pooper when a funny thread like this one comes around!

To those who arent sure what class to play and want to know what abilities different classes get, check http://www.thescoutssanctuary.com/ for all of your scouting needs, and http://clanwhitestorm.com/eq2info/index.htm for everything else. Casters and priests are grouped under spell lists, fighters and scouts under combat arts.

If you have to steal things from other people to improve yourself, I would not label that as getting better.

Yep... and the way to solve all frame-rate lag is to hold alt and repeatedly press F4...
#26 Dec 16 2004 at 6:27 AM Rating: Decent
Xodarap,

I tried that but it only made things work. In fact it caused EQ to crash and close down. Was i doing it wrong? Do I need to press Alt4 quickly or slowly repeatedly?

Thanks for helping me
