gahh, theres so much to ask about freakin guilds, its kindof hard to know where to start. How about patrons, it says the max number of patrons you can have is 36, yet my guild has 202 people listed as patron, ehh wtf? Also, what is it meant by more patrons lowering guild xp for writs? Our guild is multi cultural, freeport and qeynos, is there any way we can set up a freeport section, a guild house in FP, or anything like that, or should I just tell all 60 fp members I'm sorry but its best for you to go now, heh? Well, That will do for now, I know I had more but its really late, thanks fellas. OH~ and does anyone know about a eqII log parser yet?

There's no point in having any more than 36 patrons because you won't get the returns in terms of guild experience. Only people who play regularly and are willing to keep doing writs should be patrons. The ideal number is between 12 and 36.

I forget where it was that I read this, perhaps on the eq2 SOE boards...

Officially stated: "The ideal number of patrons is between 12 and 36." Unofficially surmised by players so far: "The number of patrons is tied into the formula for determining how many status points are given to the guild from your pool of status points received from writs."

Basically it's thought that the formula is capped at a divider of 12 on the low end. Whereas, the smallest divider is 12, while the max divider is not capped.

For simplicity let's say that city writs give on average 1200 status points. Regardless of wether you have 1 or 12 patrons you will still have the low end divider of 12.

Total Status Earned: 1200
Guild Status Earned: 1200 / 12 = 100
Personal Status Earned: 1200 - 100 = 1100

Now with that formula, say you have 36 patrons - as long as they are all working on writs then even though the divider is higher you will have more people working on the writs.

Total Status Earned: 1200
Guild Status Earned: 1200 / 36 = 33.333333333333333333333333333333
Assuming each person can do one writ in 30 minutes, 36 patrons could do 72 writs in one hour.

Total Status Earned: 1200 * 72 = 86400
Guild Status Earned: (1200 * 72) / 36 = 2400
Guild Status Per Person: 2400 / 36 = 67 (rounded up)

Back to twelve to compare for hourly rates:

Total Status Earned: 1200 * 24 = 28800
Guild Status Earned: (1200 * 24) / 12 = 2400
Guild Status Per Person: 2400 / 12 = 200

As you can see 2400. Lets see what we get with 20 patrons:

Total Status Earned: 1200 * 40 = 48000
Guild Status Earned: (1200 * 40) / 20 = 2400
Guild Status Per Person: 2400 / 20 = 120

Now let us compare what happens when we go to say 40 patrons.

Total Status Earned: 1200 * 80 = 96000
Guild Status Earned: (1200 * 80) / 40 = 2400
Guild Status Per Person: 2400 / 40 = 60

No increase. Let's try 50 now:

Total Status Earned: 1200 * 100 = 120000
Guild Status Earned: (1200 * 100) / 50 = 2400
Guild Status Per Person: 48

Still no increase... Also notice the steady decrease in points per person, per hour.

Take into account however, that these numbers require EVERY PATRON to be active and working on writs. Assume half of your patrons are working on writs (50 patrons)...

Total Status Earned: 1200 * 50 = 60000
Guild Status Earned: (1200 * 50) / 50 = 1200
Guild Status Per Person: 1200 / 50 = 24

Using the formula with 12 out of 24 patrons working:

Total Status Earned: 1200 * 24 = 28800
Guild Status Earned: (1200 * 24) / 24 = 1200
Guild Status Per Person: 1200 / 24 = 50

I know this is getting to be a long post, but stay with me a little more...

I have not been able to verify this, but there is appearantly no decay in place, so having more patrons will not cause a faster decay (or any decay at all). However Organizing 36+ people to participate in writs is a lot harder than organizing 12 people to do writs. So the more people you have the larger your base divider is, the less points you get per person, per hour (as shown above). So even without guild status/xp decay - you are probably better off with fewer patrons... not to mention that if one of your patrons leaves the guild you lose their contributions and could (I believe) lose a guild level... I could be wrong about this.

Can anyone verify or refute what I have posted?
