Soloing mobs 7 levels above me!Follow

I am, as you can see by my sig, a 28th level defiler. I have good gear, upgraded spells and a good grasp of the combat wheel. Last night I headed to the Enchanted Lands to explore, and was a little bummed because everything was still red or deep orange.

So I started grabbing quests, and discovering new areas. This got old after a while, so I said what the heck I will give one of these orange turtles a try.

I destroyed it.

Wow, I thought, maybe I can do this. So I took a look at my quest log and realized that I needed every one of the creatures in the area around the docks. I started slaughtering reds.

Before I realized it I was up to Briarpaw cubs which are 33-35th level. Up to 33, five levels above me, these bears were not even a challenge. The 34th level ones were tough fights, and the rare 35th one almost got me killed.

I also realized that I was getting about 15-20% xp per hour, and was finishing quests. There really is good solo content in EQ2, and you really can level without a group.

So this morning I sat back and digested what I did last night. In FFXI you would usually get your *** handed to you by an even match at 28th, and if you tried something even one level above you death was assured. Even if you did win you would have insane downtime.

With EQ2 you can get meaningful xp while waiting for groups, and can finish quests while doing so. Kudos SOE. I am very impressed.

My suggestion to you friend. Get it while the gettings good, it won't last. If your able to solo mobs 7 levels above you, something is broken and it WILL get fixed/nerfed. Enjoy it while you can.

Agreed, there is a problem if you can do that. Yellows should be fine if your want to take some risk. But the higher con mobs should eat you alive.

I don't have much problem soloing yellow cons as a Templar at level 24 as long as they are solo... grouped mobs eat me alive if they are blue...

The average class won't be able to kill mobs 7 levels higher than them, but I'm sure there are exceptions. Try as you may, there will always be imbalance, expect it...

But, if you happen to get a hold of all your master spells, or if I had mine, I could see myself killing red con mobs just because of spell power/skill power...

As the person before me noticed, getting yellows or even reds that are solo is not necessarily a death wise, but a trying, solo, a small group of blues in our mid-20's seems to be an ill-fated death wish. Big disparity between cons of solo mobs and those that con grouped, DO NOT think that because you have taken down a yellow as if it were a green, you can do the same to group of two yellow mobs, you'll be looking for your shard.

I'm still a bit miffed by that one, but hey, thx for the info because I find that I can mow through groups of solo mobs and get the same if not better exp than while grouped, even good groups. Alas, the big difference may be the drop rate of our beloved treasure chests, which seems to be much less with solo mobs. Also, I've noticed that spells and such don't seem to drop off the solo mobs, are spell drops reserved to the group mobs?

Anyway, I leveled from 20 - 25 in just a few days killing the little snakes just inside of the Nek Forest zone from the commonlands. Not only did they give amazing exp, but they dropped a Shield every ten to fifteen that sells for 18+sp in Freeport...I was able to upgrade every spell to Adept1 at least(2 Adept 3's)plus armor and still have like 7gp left.

Thx, for the info, anyone else that knows good solo'ing grounds, please share as I'm about lvl 26 and looking for nice solo places when there's not a group looking for more.

Syph - Mistmoore (one sikazzbizatch Necro-hizz-O)

ps. in solo or duo groups, learn the magic of the wheel, can make your Power seem bottomless.

Thank you.

Everyone I talk to in game and for the most part from what I see here, is all "dude soloing is bad, you gotta get a group, blackburrow or something"...

I haven't knocked out the numbers, but I solo alot and it doesn't feel like things are any slower than in a group, plus I can go where I want and gather/mine/etc during downtime...

I'm only level 16, but I've taken oranges and low level reds without much of a problem (I'm a druid)...

The thing I hate about groups is everyone wants to grind it out...

The other day I convinced my group to throw enduring breath on and go fight tide goliaths out in the water, we ran around and finished some quests as well...Best group I've ever had...More people need to be willing to do things besides grind it out in the same old same old...

Maybe its just my server or I have bad luck, but it seems like people are already obsessed with leveling and they just want to grind it out...

Anyhow, soloing is totally possible and fun...I throw in a group every now and again to keep fresh, but I can only grind for so long...

Yeah, the caster classe seem to have it a little bit better than the melee classes in soloing. I'm not sure why - but I know with my cleric using HO and a couple of Adept level spells he can easily kill an yellow mob that crusader had more of a problem with when it was white.

I'm thinking that perhaps alot has to do with the gear - you are still victim to your weapon's delay - while casters just have their spell recharge - but the damage on the spells being linked one after another (especially with a HO) seems so much greater than the melee that they seem to decimate the mobs.

I have not tried anything more than a couple of levels above me, and actually I prefer to solo green group mobs because I get chests and more xp than I would for a white solo mob - so I probably won't notice it until its too late and gone :-/

Well i havent tested high level caster, but i played guardian and enchanter now i can tell you my guardian up to 15 could solo not only better than the enchanter but by lets say 3 billion %.

So i guess at higher level it changes, but what i think is EQ2 beta testers sucked and the game is not yet balanced over 20, all that will change.

From my experience, low lvl melee are FAR superior soloers than casters but the all time greats are (as the guy who started the thread) the healer classes.

Yup, being able to heal yourself while fighting without being interrupted is a MAJOR advantage over ever other class.

I have a shaman friend who is destroying mobs because of that simple fact.

I've been playing around with my Shaman a lot lately. And I have to say...kickass. Wards rock.

I still do rather well soloing with my Wizard though. I got tired of bad parties, and soloed 18-20. Wasn't too bad, and I got all the drops to myself. :)

I thought groups where bad in EQ1, but groups in this game tend to be crap. 1. you have people who have never played EQ at all starting. (This one I can deal with least you can talk to them) 2. To many people who have played EQ want to play EQ2 the same way, and that is just a sure way to get killed :(

So I solo alot, I have soloed all the way from 1st to alomost 21st now, and other then a few quest here and there that I need 1 or 2 other peoples help with I have not done to much grouping.

I think I will hold off till people figure out how to play there game hehehe.

I solod a level 38 fish in EL, as a level 26 Warden. Not a big deal.

I noticed that after I did all my AQ armor quests that it was much easier to solo as well. The AC made a huge difference from the gear I had before... If I actually went shopping and bought top of the line gear, instead of spending it all on Tradeskills, I'm sure I could solo orange/red con solo mobs as a 24 Templar...

Another thing I noticed while I was in group, was that debuffed groups of mobs with double weakness/rebuke and MoP hit like puppies and are easily hit... major difference between regular mobs when they are debuffed...

Multi mob encounters are good hunting. Overall, each mob in the group is weaker than the normal single/solo version of itself. It's that the combined force of them is tougher. With that in mind, using Demonstration of Faith to absorb damage, once I knock out a mob or two the encounter just gets progressivly easier.

Last night while wandering commonlands looking for nodes to harvest I accidentally aggroed the named lion and his enterage. It was a green ++ group encounter. I guess the named lion does power damage because I was seeing my power just drain away... maybe it was a fluke, but I was debating trying to get out of there. I decided to stick it out with a quarter power and 3/4 hp left. I hit DoF and chained HOs and knockdown/stun attacks untill the named mob died, once he dropped the rest of the lionesses in the pack were really no match, I was down to 10% health and had 5 other lionesses to deal with. I kept on HOing, using my life drain attack to keep my hp around 10% and finally beat each one.

Got decent xp and a chest with a Cape of the Cat or something in it. =)

as as 30-32 wizard I can solo oranges, although I dont pay attention to their actual level.

I dont get 15-20% exp an hour though, I can guarantee that...
I would be lucky to get 10%... very lucky.

From watching my exp bar, I see very minimal difference between white-yellow-orange exp....
