i think rogue is very good... he attacks very fast, attacks from behind (low armor there) and he has sneak =)

I see this as a can of worms just waiting to be opened ;) Anyway, I'll say it before anyone else does. There really isnt a "best" scout class. They all do different things, have different jobs, and they do them all pretty well.

The Rogue path (swashbuckler/brigand) is a nice balance of utility, and DPS. You get a lot of fun abilities, and can dish out the damage over extended periods.

The Predator path (ranger/assassin) is high damage output, with some utility.

The Bard path (troubadour/dirge) is good damage, with a lot of utility, and group function.

Of all of these you really can't ask which is the best, for everyone is going to have a different opinion, people are very protective of they're chosen class, and we've yet to see the end game.

Also realize, that the game will go through many changes, and balancing acts in order to create a more balanced world. So even if there is one class that is better than another, it will either be hit by the nerf bat, or the other class's will be given other advantages to even out the playing field.

Play the class that looks fun to you, do the best you can, and you won't fail.

Just wait for SOE to get rid of the other "lesser" scout classes. Then the only one left will be the "best".

After all, if there is a *BEST* scout class what point is there in having any other classes????

Right?

seeing as how your other characters are a summoner and a necromancer, you may like the ranger class the best as they get "pets".

Past that I agree with the above statement there is no best class in scout - only how you percieve them and the player behind them.

If one was better than the others, the game would be broken.

Rangers get pets? =O How about assassins? That's what road I'm treading down. If Assassin don't get pets, what do they get to compansate for such a loss?

Ever that maybe maybe the ranger's pet is a compensation for their shortcomings vs an assassin?

Everyone gets a lil pet spell at 20, not just Rangers... I think the assassin gets a rat, I'm not sure though... They don't do anything though, just follow you around and make people go eww ahh... thats cool... why am I lagging?

Short comings? if thats a joke about my hieght GNOMERCY

But i would love to see an Assasin try to out solo a ranger, mybe in a group there dmg is better at this point, but lots of issues are still being resolved as well as new stratigies (spelling) for every class the end game for any class has yet to be determined...

And end game power is the most important thing as far as class balancing goes, because every class shines through certian levels ect, because of 1 or 2 spells/abilites or a combination of both

Not everyone gets a pet at 20. Some people get an "enforced reaction spell" to make other grouped members of lower lvl do some emote. Pals and SKs get horses I think.

All scouts are good at DPS. Most Ranger abilities are bow-based, so you'll have to deal with arrows. Arrows that do good damage are somewhat expensive, and while you can get back some after a fight (there is a skill for this, or so I've read), you still end up spending $ that others don't.

Assassins are probably the best at melee dps, but only by a bit.

Bards add all sorts of useful abilities/buffs, esp troubies, to the party. They get a charm that doesn't really work like a charm, at least as I read its descr. - it works more like a mez.

Swashies get a weak mez and are the only class to get 'group inviibility'. Note that monsters of a certain level will see right through this "invis", so it isn't all that great. But my scout is going swashie, and I like it so far.

There really is no "best" here. That's one thing Sony did - they worked hard to make sure no one could complain about that. Of course I think they sucked some of the life out of the game to do this, but that's just me. And there is much to admire in the game.

Don't kill yourself over what to pick. The "grass will always seem greener on the other side of the fence" no matter what you do. Oh, ***. can only be evil, rang. can only be good. SB good, brigand evil. Troub and dirge can be either. Your value to a group will be more your ability to play competently, etc. - and won't be purely class based like in other games.

Try thescoutssanctuary.com for more scout info - KILLER site. All the abilities/songs are listed there. Good forums. GL.

I'm going to be a templar, and the spell i get says" enforces a faithful respect of the templar". Does anyone know what it does?
It must be good though cause 20 pallys get horses so when im a 20 templar, i must get a good spell. I just need to know what it does.

Lol if its the entertainment spell for templars at level 20 it won't be that great

The horse pallies get is an entertainment spell - its slightly faster than normal movement and slower than sprinting - haven't compared it to pathfinding yet...seems about as fast as the pre-order j-boots

I think this is the one that causes people to "cringe" like the lower level mobs do when you come close.

Swashbuckler of course! :P

Seriously though go with what ever class interest you most, they are all very useful. Bards are very helpful to other classes in groups so they will be appreciated more if that is what you are after.
