What good are the Strong Boxes?Follow

#1 Dec 06 2004 at 4:57 PM Rating: Decent
Just as the question reads. I see people selling these over weight containers on the market for 20s yet dont understand the item. I made one and thought wow maybe I can put this in my room as a storage area for my sell pile. but nope its a 100lb container you have to carry around. What good is this. Also why are people buying them at 20s pieces when for 6s and 40c you can buy a 6 sloted sack that weights maybe 5lbs doesnt make any sense please make it clear. Thanks

Put these in your bank. If you get strong elm boxes you get 7-8 slots. Great for adding much needed inventory space to your bank. Ideally you want to have tanned bags (6 slots) on your person and strong elm boxes in your bank for optimal storage space.

It's for use in the Bank. :) It's a cheap 6-8 slot bank container. The high weight is to prevent it's use as a mobile container.

Ok so they are used in the bank thats cool but I see them for 20s not what you call cheap and thats for prestine elm strongboxes lol. Me and one other person sell the crude elm strongboxes for 5s. I dont know. Well thanks for keying me in.

Heck if I know about that price... :) Maybe they won't sell many and will change their pricing strategy.

Why dont people just use 6 sloted sacks that cost 6s in the merchent for the bank this strongbox thing is just confusing me. lol

I sold a pristine Maple strongbox (12 slot) for 2 gold early on. People are just silly. Of course now they're around 40 silver or even less.

Basically two reasons people buy the strong boxes instead of crafting them:

1) They don't know how to make them. New players are still flooding the servers everyday. They don't have Guilds yet and they don't have friends that can "show them the ropes" so to speak. They are trying to figure everything out and it takes time. If they can find enough money buy harvesting/finding items to sell then they will do that because its easier.

2) They don't need to craft them. Some people are already earning enough money via scribing or making equipment. They just don't have the time to craft or harvest the materials to make them or they just don't care. Its a lot easier to pay more money up front to own them then to invest time into learning how to make them. This is especially true when you have the money to burn!

Reasons to buy Consoles..

Elm: 6-8 Slots very cheap, usualy only a couple SP.
You can make one for around a silver. Sell for 3-6 silver
Any new player can make these and leather backpacks very easily.

Maple: 8-12 Slots, Again fairly cheap.
Again, 5-6 silver depending on components. Sells for 12-20s

Ash: 16+ Slots.
Much harder to make and prices very greatly.

I bought 12 pristine Maple boxes that have 12 slots for 30s each... the extra bank space is well worth the money...plus I load them when I want to sell...its a slow walk to my room but not to bad...

Hmmm I don't have the Elm Strong Box recipe in my recipe book.
I am sure I am either 1) spacing out or 2) totally clueless.... but how do you make these things?

The recipe for elm strong boxes is in the first 8 books on the IoR avaiable for purchase. They are much easier to make than leather backpacks and drasticly increase bank storage early on in the game.

If you did not buy them in IOR you can also buy the first 9 basic books in the basic crafting instances. I belive the boxes are level 5, and are woodworking station items but I would have to check.

Found In:
Artisan Essentials Volume 5
Planed Elm (Primary)
Tin Stud + Tin Sheet

Wordworkign Device (sand paper)

I make pristine elm strong boxes (8 slot), and put them up on my merchant for 10 SP each. I ALWAYS sell out the 6 I can carry within an hour... there is a big demand for additional bank space right now, will taper off as people fill up their slots though.
