Small rant but it is getting annoying.
Everytime I log on, no matter what zone I am in, I am constantly seeing people auctioning wares in /OOC. Now, I completely understand that many people are very new to the concept of an auction channel, or they may not even know about it. For those who dont I will explain rq. For those who know, skip down to the next paragraph.

The auction channel (/auction or /auc) is the place you want to sell your wares. This is a channel that can be turned on and off by each person, determining if they are looking for anything to buy or not. Many people keep it on, while others enjoy going to the broker if they need something. /OOC is usually a place for questions that players might have about the game and answers from fellow players It is also used for other reasons, but for now this seems to be the main way to have Qand A.

I dont mind seeing it here and there, but everynight I am seeing /OOC constantly scrolling up my chat window with sales of items. Many times I am even seeing the same person spam the same message several times in a minute. I do have the auction channel on as well and it is rarely used. I'm not normally a cranky person when I play, but I have gotten to the point where I have been /OOCing "WTB an auction channel" when the spamming gets ridiculous.

Players, I come to you and beg that those who do not know abouut the auction channel, to learn about it and use it well. Those who do know the auction channel and are still /OOCing, please remember to use the correct channels, even though not as many will hear you (if they have auc channel off 10-1 they wont buy from you anyways because you are annoying them). And lastly, please do not spam the same message of the same item again and again within a short time period. (I'm talking spamming like 5 messages in 1 minute type deal here)

Thanks.

well... the default color of ooc is green and the default color of auction is a almost identical shade of green... so what you're saying is you dont mind them auctioning off something in that zone but just so long as they say /auction WTS Tuber strands and not /ooc WTS Tuber strands... wow... just wow.

*edit* I agree with the spamming though. No matter what they use spamming is an understandable annoyance.

The problem is not the shade of green... it's that you can TURN OFF /auction...

When they are auctioning in all three zone wide channels (/shout, /ooc, and /auction) then you have to turn them all off... and that typically becomes annoying as you then miss things you actually might want to hear conveyed in /shout or /ooc.

Fact of life, get over it. stop crying, it will not cease no matter how much you whine about it.

Brilliant outlook there Kensi...
/sarcasm off

I didn't take her post as crying at all... more of a "Hey, if you didn't know about this..."

if they use /shout, /ooc, /auction all in the same zone then I would have to say those people are insane. They should also do a /join auction and/or /join trader, depending on thier server.

as a matter of principle, i won't buy anything advertised in ooc, just like i toss junk mail at home :).

and yar, they should be using /auction, but they think they're brilliant for not doing so, and i let them live in their world :).

i'll generally put ooc and shout in a separate window, so i can watch it, and ignore it if the spam gets too bad, but this only hurts the people that genuinely need help, and it makes me sad when i'm driven to do so :(.

and, no, i don't see this as whining. i thought the original post was well put.

and, no, i'm not whining, just expressing my opinion, in case those that engage in this sort of thing would actually listen ;).

YOu are correct, it will not stop. BUT if I put all of the offenders on my ignore list, guess what? It DOES stop. Guess what else? The idiots spamming will not get a sale from me, even when I decide to join the auction channel, either, as I will leave them on ignore.

Wow Kensi you're still above filter? Im impressed.

As for the colors being the same youre right. However, you can change the colors of any chat you want. As of right now I have /OOC in green and /auc in blue. So I CAN tell the difference.

Auction channel is there for a reason; to auction stuff you want to buy or sell. These forums and others are here for a reason, especially to those new at the concepts of this game; it's to learn. Hence why I posted here to learn to use the appropriate channels.

Good Post Lady, as always! I didn't know about the auction channel, interesting!

Too bad Kensai that we aren't all born with your gaming knowledge, wish you had gotten a dose of pleasant player to go along with your attitude.

Thanks for the support. I'm truely not meaning to be ****** here. There are just many people who are so new to the concept of different chat channels, including the auction. If people dont know about them they will not use it. I never would have known in EQ. Im just trying to pass on the knowledge to make EQ2 a fun (and useful) place for us all.

I was in a party where the crusader would spam his goods on /OOC between every mob pull. For some reason I found this particularly annoying.
#21 Dec 08 2004 at 3:28 PM Rating: Decent
As someone said before, /ooc, shout and auction channel are zone only. Its useless unless you /auction in a place like "bazaar" in EQ 1. or you will never sell your stuff.

Market board, well is better than /auction channel but its still bounded by the city border. which means only those inside the city area can buy your stuff. if you open you chat option of the chat window, there are feel official chat channel to select, like Freeport_Bard, Freeport_troubador channel, etc. but still can only be heard within the city border.

People, setup your own "SERVER WIDE" channel called "Market", Its "SERVER WIDE". do you auction in "Market" channel in Freeport, and those in Qeynos can hear it. It is a very good idea. and Its "FREE"! not like Black market which will charge you per each sell.

Setup your "SERVER WIDE" Market channel now! Sell your stuff fast!
